Manager of Financial Reporting

MLMIC Insurance Company is based in New York state and has specialized in providing professional liability for NY physicians since 1975. After operating independently and as a mutual insurance company for most of its existence, MLMIC was purchased by Berkshire Hathaway in the fall of 2018.
We continue to be the most significant writer of professional medical liability insurance in the State of New York. We provide insurance for physicians, dentists, and hospitals.

We offer a competitive salary for qualified candidates, with the flexibility to work remotely from home while utilizing our offices when necessary.

We have offices in New York City, East Meadow, Syracuse, and Colonie. For this role, preference is given to candidates within the Colonie, NY area.

Responsibilities:

· Oversee the general ledger monthly to ensure accurate quarterly and annual financial reports, including coordination with Accounts Payable.

· Oversees daily treasury and banking functions.

· Oversee investment transactions and subsequent general ledger postings.

· Oversee related party billings and collections.

· Oversee premium related items such as premium receivable, including evaluation of accuracy of source documents, and resolution of reconciling items. As well as the compliance of other departments to Finance policies to ensure accurate financial data.

· Responsible for quarterly budget.

· Assist in the preparation of the quarterly GAAP financial statement template for parent.

· Prepare various quarterly/annual statement schedules.

· Coordinate internal audits, annual financial audits, annual Model Audit Rule review and periodic regulatory audits.

· Oversee general operations issues of the Finance Dept, including assessing internal controls and operational effectiveness.

· Assist in assessing overall Finance Internal Controls and operational efficiencies.

· Responsible for administration of banking relationships including signature changes, banking services, account maintenance, and security authorizations.

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

· Five to seven years’ experience in accounting/finance operations.

· Insurance-related experience, including preparation of an insurance annual statement.

· Strong knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles and the ability to research and document conclusions on complex accounting issues.

· Excellent organizational coupled with excellent time management skills and ability to deliver multiple tasks at once.

· Effective written and verbal communication skills.

· Strong analytical skills coupled with great attention to details.

· Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial software.

· Strong leadership skills.

· Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment but also self-motivated.

Preferred Qualifications (Technical & Life Skills):

· CPA with public accounting experience.

· Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

· Managerial experience.

For this role, preference is given to candidates within the Colonie, NY area.
