GENERAL PURPOSE

Work will be holistic to include Operations, Logistics, Commercial, Accounting and Back office/Front Office. Gain knowledge of all critical functions in each area. This comprehensive program will require the candidate to be immersed in the day-to-day activities of each area. The cumulative time-period to meet the minimums of understanding for each discipline is estimated to be two years. In some instances, timing may vary depending on the individual. At the end of this training, the candidate should have a good background and a general understanding of the business, strategies, and culture of the division.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations

  • Develop an understanding of the overall plant processes including, but not limited to raw milk receiving, pasteurization, processing, CIP, filler operations, sanitation, lab procedures, housekeeping, blow molding, bagger/de-bagger.
  • Learn the fundamentals of food quality and safety, DFA good manufacturing practices, as well as food product regulatory responsibilities.
  • Develop an understanding of production management including, but not limited to scheduling, employee safety, operational efficiency, cost containment, shrink initiatives and CI activities.
  • Work to understand all aspects of the Cooler including, but not limited to load out (large format and small format), order picking, product put away and storage, inventory accountability, corrugated packaging, fork-lift operation, and SERTI inventory management system.

Logistics

  • Develop a working knowledge of various delivery formats by working with large format delivery drivers, small format delivery drivers and warehouse delivery personnel.
  • Develop an understanding of various metrics and tools used to manage dynamic routing, routing tools, handhelds, safety, customer order fulfilment, customer service and dairy case management.

Commercial

  • Develop an understanding of the Sales Department's activities by working with Sales Representatives out in the market through sales calls/visits, merchandising opportunities in customer stores, furthering the understanding of dairy sets at retail while developing knowledge of best practices at the store level.
  • Work with Sales management to develop an understanding of selling, pricing, costing, bid preparation, customer service and strategic market initiatives that drive profitability.

Accounting

  • Work with the Cost Accountant, Controller, Office Manager, Route Settlement Team, Accounts Receivable and Pricing Coordinator to develop an understanding of the principles of dairy accounting activities including month end P&L review.

Requirements:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Undergraduate degree in related curriculum preferred
  • 1-2 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably food and/or beverage manufacturing
  • Leadership aptitude or team leadership experience

. Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment.

  • Able to develop knowledge of manufacturing process f low and importance to process
  • Able to develop knowledge of continuous improvement models
  • Able to develop knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, training, and personnel management
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Able to complete basic arithmetic, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions
  • Able to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamwork
  • Able to interact positively and work effectively with others (interpersonal skills)
  • Able to think and use independent judgment in planning and organizing multiple tasks and information requirements
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and follow through on day-to-day responsibilities
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
