DEPARTMENT: RADIOLOGY

SUPERVISOR: DIRECTOR RADIOLOGY

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for performing radiographic exams, mammography examinations and CT scans, positioning the patient and equipment in an appropriate manner, and selecting radiographic technique. This position also requires adequate and timely decision making when it comes to patient confidentiality and patient specific level of care. This is a SAFETY SENSITIVE position. BCMC operates per the CMS requirements regarding vaccine status/exemptions.

Position Accountabilities:

• 
  Identifies each patient and reviews each patient's requisition for consistency of examination ordered, clinical diagnosis and all demographic information.
• Operate Mammography unit to produce images of the breasts for diagnostic purposes accordingly.
• Explain procedures to patient, position and immobilize patient's breast in unit and observe during scan appropriately.
• Review and evaluate image to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
• Performs daily, weekly, and monthly Quality Control functions related to mammography.
• Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
• Performs CT scans and X-rays as needed.
• Assesses patient condition, ensures patient safety through proper use of restraint/support devices under supervision of Director.
• Reviews each examination for technical accuracy, presents completed examination to Director, and communicates pertinent data to persons responsible for the care of patient following the procedure.

• Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper film identification on all images.
• Coordinates radiographic examination to ensure the quality and continuity of patient care and assists with the management of the work flow of the department to ensure the completion of the work assignments in the absence of the Director.

• Document correctly and accurately patient information to ensure the quality of patient care.
• Demonstrates competency and proficiency in radiation protection, protecting self and other personnel during all radiologic examinations, and shields patients properly.

• Reports all safety hazards that could harm patients, visitors or other hospital employees to Director immediately.
• Keeps Director informed of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to staff, patients and physicians.
• Attends in-services as required, as documented by sign-in sheets.
• Performs other related duties as requested.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience

• Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist Program
• Passed the ARRT Registry exam as a Radiologic Technologist RT(R) Credentials.
• Passed the ARRT Registry exam for Computed Tomography RT(CT) preferred or have on the job-related experience and/or willing to cross train in CT.
• Passed the ARRT Registry exam for Mammography RT(M) preferred or have on the job-related experience and/or must be willing to cross train in mammography.
• In compliance with MQSA & ADH Mammography Standards.
• Licensed by the state of Arkansas as a Radiologic Technologist.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Occasional exposure to ionizing radiation. Requires standing, lifting and walking regularly during all shifts. Occasional exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
