Job description
Maintenance Workers may be assigned to any one of the three divisions Water, Streets, and Sewer and may be transferred between divisions
Water Division
- Maintains and repairs water mains, water meters, fire hydrants, valves and service lines.
- Reads water meters
- Shovels and rolls asphalt in street/alley repair.
- Forms and pours concrete curbs and gutters, slabs, sidewalks and handicap ramps, etc
- Responsible for replacing, fabricating and installing street, parking and traffic signs and sign posts.
- Fills pot holes.
- Maintains and repairs sanitary and storm sewers, manholes and inlets.
- Performs diagnostic functions; dye testing, sewer televising
- Hauls material; snow and ice control.
- Performs other related duties as requested.

Education:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Experience:
Provide proof of satisfactory past work-related experience in the Public Works or Construction Trades. Three (3) years of prior municipal (or similar) work experience preferred.
Certification or License:
A valid Commercial Driver's License Class A or B, is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Proficiencies:
Practices and procedures for safe operation of materials, machinery, vehicles and equipment necessary for street, sewer and water distribution maintenance; occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to public works maintenance. Ability to: Read and follow work orders, use hand and power tools; follow safety precautions and recognize hazards; communicate orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Safety Functions:
- Becomes familiar with and observes all applicable safety policies and procedures.
- Immediately reports all unsafe conditions.
- Keeps work area clean, orderly, and free of hazards.
- Adheres to all safety rules and established work procedures.
- Maintains appropriate physical fitness to perform essential job functions.
The work environment is varied with loud to very loud noise and hearing protection may be required. Most repair and maintenance work is performed in the outside and seasonal temperatures and weather conditions may vary from extremely hot, humid and dusty to extremely cold and wet.
Normal work day operations are Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm. During emergencies and seasonal work, employees may be required to be available during off hours.

The position requires the knowledge, skill and ability to operate the following equipment: construction tools and equipment including but not limited to: mechanized skid steer and breaker, air compressor and air tools (jack hammer, chisels, drills), shovels picks and brooms, chain saws, trimmers; hand tools, sign bucket machine, front end loaders and back hoes, trucks (pickup, 1 ton, 2-1/2 tons and 5 ton and bucket trucks), levels, rulers, lutes and rollers, back-hoe, excavators, vacuum trucks, flusher/jetter trucks, snow plows and other motorized equipment.
