LPN POSITION

OBJECTIVES
Perform medical assessments and other medical duties as required. Ensure quality client care. May be scheduled to work in a variety of substance abuse treatment programs that provide services to adults and adolescents in a residential setting with staff who perform assessment, intervention, prevention, individual and group therapy in Detox.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ensure quality internal and external customer care and service.
Responsible for ensuring the Support Staff are completing their daily duties.
Completing drug screens for walk in clients, when Lab/Tech not available.
Schedule appointments with outside physicians or clinics as needed.
Provide coverage on unit as assigned.
Assist MSS staff with showers, making client beds, serving meals as needed.
Answer telephone, direct calls as appropriate.
Perform admission assessments.
Administer medications and complete treatments as ordered.
Determine client’s need for emergency medical assessment/treatment (referral to hospital) upon admission.
Assist psychiatrist and other staff physicians as needed.
Facility requires all staff to be “AWAKE” staff.
Perform special projects and other Agency related assignments as requested.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
Must be able to successfully complete CPR, First Aid, AIDs and Direct Service training within 90 days employment
Must abide by Agency's Code of Ethics, Agency Standards, Policy and Procedures Manuals
Must be able to successfully complete the agency's internal driving test within the first two weeks of employment.
Strict adherence to the Incident (Unusual Event) Reporting, timekeeping, and work attendance requirements.
Must complete a minimum of 20 hours of job related training annually.
Must practice universal precautions as part of regular job duties whenever applicable.
Demonstrate proficiency in verbal de-escalation skills with juveniles and adults.
Demonstrate proficiency in physical intervention techniques with juveniles and adults.
Timely and regularly complete all required documentation, reports, and other Agency related paperwork.
Maintain the work area in a clean and orderly condition.
Ensure safe operating conditions within the area of responsibility.
Ability to function as an effective team member.
Must not engage in behaviors that erode the cohesiveness of the program staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
FORMAL EDUCATION
Graduate of an LPN Certification program
SKILLS
Nursing assessment.
Ability to follow universal precautions.
Ability to monitor clients and staff closely.
Ability to work with agitated/aggressive clients
Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies and life threatening situations in an appropriate manner.
Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
Strong customer service and organizational skills.
Ability to relate and present to groups.
Ability to relate to adolescents, adults, families, referral sources and internal Gateway Team Members
EXPERIENCE
None required. Addictions/Mental Health Nursing experience preferred
KNOWLEDGE
General medical knowledge, some knowledge of addictions and psychiatric disorders preferred
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
State of Florida LPN Licensure
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Exposure to clients who may be under the influence or withdrawing from mood altering chemicals
Shift work at times. Must be able to stay awake during shifts.
Possible exposure and or contact with blood, body fluids and airborne pathogens
Physical: Mobility and ability to bend and reach during an 8-12 hour day. Able to lift a minimum of 10 lbs. Visual and auditory ability sufficient to evaluate data and applications. Fine motor skills for legible and accurate writing of reports, correspondence and working with the computer. Hours and days off may vary, weekend work may be required.
