Southern Southeast Regional Aquaculture Association is recruiting for a Lead Maintenance Technician at its Whitman Lake Hatchery, Deer Mountain Hatchery and associated saltwater rearing projects. These hatcheries and rearing projects enhance three species of Pacific salmon, Summer Chum, Fall Coho and Chinook.

Whitman Lake and Deer Mountain hatcheries are located in Ketchikan, Alaska on the road system. The associated rearing projects are located throughout the region.

The Lead Maintenance Technician performs maintenance and repair of hatchery equipment and infrastructure. This position coordinates with the hatchery manager and staff to prioritize and schedule maintenance and infrastructure projects.

Other job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to record keeping, project development, budget development and tracking. Manages preventative maintenance and workplace safety programs.

Occasional fish culture work will be necessary based on staffing levels and time of year.

This is a dynamic position that helps meet the needs of a salmon enhancement association.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to develop healthy working relationships with co-workers and have the willingness to learn and share knowledge and skills. The successful candidate must have or be able to obtain an Alaska Driver’s license. The job requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. Work is often outside in any weather condition or inside around cold running water.

Pay range for this position $22.05-$28.98/hr DOE. Benefits include: health, dental, life, long-term disability insurance, and participation in a 403b retirement plan.
