POSITION SUMMARY:

The Lead Paramedic will lead the HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital EMS Transport Services Team. The Lead Paramedic will hold the responsibility of performing professional level work in planning, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating and managing the operations of interfacility transport and emergency medical care while ensuring compliance with applicable Florida statutes and administrative rules.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides direction, leadership and day-to-day supervision of the Transport EMTs and Paramedics. Guides the operations of dual licensed Registered Nurse/Paramedics and CCRN when performing critical care transports
  • Participates with staffing objectives by identifying, recruiting, and interviewing suitable candidates.
  • Assists the HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital EMS Medical Director with research, development, implementation, education, and enforcement of policies, procedures and guidelines which promote sound patient care. To include analyzing, drafting, coordination, preparation, and implementation of EMS guidelines
  • Assists with performance reviews and competency analyses to identify clinical training needs, crucial staff competency needs, and areas of improvement for the Transport team and individual personnel
  • Prepares educational and training material. Conducts in-service skills reviews, training sessions, and competency verification for Transport team and individual personnel
  • Assists with staffing of Transport team through selection, coaching, evaluation, development and recognizing of direct reports
  • Performs frequent and periodic reconciliation of Transport staff patient care reports to ensure policy compliance and exceptional patient care is being provided, as well as proper patient documentation is being recorded to meet or exceed HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital’s billing standards for reimbursement
  • Periodically presents metrics to the ED Director pertaining to EMS transports and related or pertinent data
  • Oversight of team usage of equipment, supplies, and technology to ensure quality, safety, and appropriate use of resources
  • Coordinates, delegates, and verifies completion of vehicle and equipment preventative maintenance and repairs
  • Functions include EMS Transport Paramedic role
  • Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered

B. Job Specific:

1. Mutual Aid/Disaster: Acts as a liaison to partnering and neighboring agencies to facilitate mutual aid requests as outlined in Florida Statute Ch. 401. Functions within the NIMS Command System as appropriate

2. Level of Care: Leads clinical performance expectations of EMS staff that support the goals of consistent clinical performance and practice standards during interfacility transport to ensure superior clinical outcomes and unparalleled patient experience

3. Education: Advances the Transport team through appropriate training by planning, preparing and presenting EMS educational programs and simulations with objectives and content that promotes exceptional patient care, compliance with State of Florida statutes, and HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital’s departmental requirements. Oversees and/or records all completed training

EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required
  • Degree emphasis or completion of Healthcare Administration, Emergency Medical Services, or relatable coursework is preferred
  • Completion of a Paramedic program is required

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Florida Paramedic license required
  • BLS-American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS provider issued card required
  • ACLS-American Heart Association or American Red Cross ACLS provider card required
  • PALS-American Heart Association or American Red Cross PALS provider card required
  • EVOC-Emergency Vehicle Operations Course completion certificate, or equivalent required
  • FEMA-100, 200, 700, 800 required
  • ITLS-International Trauma Life Support provider card preferred

DRIVING RECORD:

This position requires driving an HCA owned vehicle. The candidate must provide a seven-year driving history from the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles and have no more than six points on their record, with no indication of unsafe driving habits. The candidate must be 21 years of age.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED:

Minimum 3 years previous clinical experience with an advanced life support EMS system required

Minimum 2 years of EMS leadership experience or in an EMS Instructor role is preferred

Experience with hospital based EMS and/or Emergency Department operations and policy/procedures is preferred

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to select, recruit, coach, and retain superior staff
  • Must be adept in professional relationship building, recognize the needs and concerns of people, and maintain constructive relationships in dealing with others
  • High proficiency with computer technology skills, critical thinking skills, and public speaking skills
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills to act as a liaison between patient care and senior administration
  • Ability to evaluate the quality of emergency care in the out of hospital interfacility transport environment and effectively coordinate processes for safe and efficient patient disposition
  • Must have knowledge of current EMT, Paramedic, Critical Care, and RN scope of practice
  • Must be skilled in patient triage, assessment, intervention, and evaluation practices
  • Must be capable of establishing and maintaining appropriate standards of care
