DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTIONBeing knowledgeable and proficient for performing venipunctures and related procedures. Responsible for accurately identifying patients, test orders and test requirements. Recognize how the position and duties are related to the overall function of the laboratory and patient satisfaction. Responsible for coordinating and processing all specimens. Responsibilities include accurate patient and specimen identity, accurate ordering of tests, accurate labeling of tubes and specimens. Processing includes accurate separation, sorting, aliquoting and organization of transport specimens to the appropriate departments involved including samples being sent out to other laboratories.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)

Experience:
-
1year of experience as a phlebotomist.

1 year of experience in a hospital environment preferred.

Education and Training:

Phlebotomy trained

License, Certification & Registration:N/A

Other Requirements:

Customer service skills.

Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ideal candidate will demonstrate and maintain a high level of flexibility.

Proven ability to interact appropriately with patients, hospital staff and physicians and maintain high level of confidentiality.

Must possess and demonstrate strong organizational skills.

Ability to speak the English language in a clearly understandable manner.

Ability to troubleshoot/maintain proper operation of business equipment preferred.

Collect specimens from patients of all ages.

Teach students phlebotomy skills.

Must have a valid Mass drivers license.
