Position Title: Reading Interventionist / Bilingual Preferable certified

Position Type: Salaried ($44,967.30 annual) / Pay Step 13 Pay Schedule TCH / Exempt

Position Hours: Full-time; Monday – Friday; 40 Hours per Week

Reports to: Campus Principal

Length of Term/Employment: 190 days / At-will

Position Mission: Provides dyslexic students with appropriate learning activities and experiences to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enables students to develop reading and writing competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Position Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Valid Texas teacher certificate.
  • Masters in reading (preferred).
  • MRT certification and reading specialist certification (preferred).

Experience:
  • Successful student teaching experience or approved internship.
  • Three (3) years successful teacher of reading experience (preferred).

Skills and Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of scientifically based reading research, dyslexia research and practice and evidence-based best practices for teaching K-6 reading.
  • Knowledge of informal and formal reading assessment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in coaching or mentoring adults on literacy related topics.
  • Skill in presenting professional development.

  • Model core organizational beliefs and values; communicate openly and effectively within and across teams to maximize student success.
  • Develop and maintain a positive classroom environment conducive to effective learning and appropriate for the development of dyslexic students.
  • Assist in organizing and developing an instructional model that meets state and district standards for dyslexia instruction.
  • Actively engage students in the learning process; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that meet the needs of individual learners with dyslexic tendencies.
  • Formally assess students for dyslexic tendencies and report data to district dyslexia committee.
  • Coach teachers on the administration and interpretation of assessment data to determine adequate progress or those in need of supplemental or intensive intervention as well as grouping for core instruction; informally assess the reading needs of students as requested by the CARE team.
  • Work cooperatively with teachers to modify curricula as needed for dyslexic students.
  • Effectively implement the discipline-management procedures approved by the campus; interact with students in an equitable manner.
  • Provide resources and training to school staff on dyslexia instruction and identification in the general classroom, scientifically based reading research and evidence-based practices.
  • Coach (e.g. co-teach, model, demonstrate, observe, and provide feedback) classroom teachers on instructing students with dyslexia and related disorders in the general classroom.
  • Utilize effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students, and district personnel; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
  • Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with district and campus goals, assigned subject content and the varied needs of students.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by TEA and the district; file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing.
  • Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
  • Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
  • Frequent district-wide travel.
