General Summary of Position
Coordinates medical care and services for international patients, embassies and organizations. Advocates for these patients and families to ensure that needs are met including language, cultural, and logistical issues. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and GUH philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Identifies and understands the service needs of international patients, embassies and organizations and under direction of the International Services Lead and Director, works to facilitate and navigate access to GUH, its physicians and services.
- Interprets medical and other patient care related information (target language skills requirements listed below). Schedules and escorts patients to appointments, tests, procedures and surgeries.
- Coordinates with physician offices to obtain the Estimate Request Form in accordance with the treatment plan and relays this information to the Finance D. Administrator for costing and required approvals.
- Arranges, coordinates and supports physician appointments, 2nd opinions, consults, tests and procedures as requested or needed in consultation with the International Services Lead and Director and communicates all schedules and confirmations directly to patients and or the sponsoring entity.
- Identifies and addresses international patient special needs, including language, cultural, and logistical issues.
- Ensures that all financial requirements, approvals and notices are met and in place expeditiously to support appointments and scheduled services and alerts the finance team immediately on any matters outstanding.
- Escorts and facilitates international patients and their families to GUH appointments as needed and facilitates any aspect of service delivery, including airport/hotel arrival and departure as may be required to ensure that their needs are met
- Identifies, assesses and assures international inpatient satisfaction by rounding daily, triaging patient and family needs; communicating with the payors or sponsors; utilizing department and hospital systems and referring issues appropriately to the International Services Lead or Director
- Understands hospital's organizational matrix, its services, physicians and staff to appropriately refer inquiries and requests from international patients, physicians, embassies and organizations.
- Builds relationships with GUH departments, health care providers, embassy medical attaches and international organizations to promote GUH and its services.
- Acts as a member of the marketing team to develop and implement the department's marketing plan, including off-site visits to embassies, international organizations and companies doing business with GUH. May include international travel.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities that are appropriate to the position and area.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree BA or BS degree in a healthcare related field. required
Experience
- 3-4 years Minimum of four years experience in healthcare, customer service or related field. required
Licenses and Certifications
- Certification in medical interpreting required. Eligible candidates will be accepted and expected to sit & pass certification exam within the first three months of employment. required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Medical interpreting proficiency in the target language (ARABIC) and completion of a medical interpreting training
- Oral and written fluency in target language;
- Ability to identify and address obstacles to high-quality patient care and satisfaction;
- Demonstrated experience working with multi-cultural / international client base;
- Experience working within a culturally diverse environment;
- Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills;
- Knowledge of medical terminology;
- Ability to diffuse stressful situations;
- Well developed listening, interpretative and conciliation skills;
- Customer service/marketing experience;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
