PROGRAM OVERVIEW: SUN stands for Schools Uniting Neighborhoods. SUN Community Schools are school-based delivery sites for a comprehensive set of services including educational, enrichment, recreational, social and health services. It is a school serving as a support hub, with schools and communities working together to support the success of children and families and provide a comprehensive array of services. They serve as the vehicle to link community organizations such as libraries, parks, social services, area churches and businesses with students and families.

JOB SUMMARY: The Extended Day Instructor will work with the SUN Site Supervisor and Extended Day Coordinator to provide opportunities for enrichment classes and activities after summer school. This seasonal summer position will be based at Grout Elementary School, 3119 SE Holgate Blvd., Portland OR 97202.

HOURS: Working hours are Monday through Friday from 12:15pm-5:45pm for the weeks of July 1, 2023-Aug 4, 2023. We will have a mandatory staff training on July 5th (opportunities to make this up are available if schedules conflict). Summer camp begins the following week on July 10th. There will be time offered either in addition or built in to working hours to prep and plan activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach afternoon enrichment classes to students who are attending summer school
• Supervise groups of 12-15 children, ages 6-11.
• Act as a positive role-model for students.
• Participate and implement support program safety to ensure students are in a safe environment.
• Develop curriculum for activity classes.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely meet the following requirements

• Experience providing academic and recreational activities to students in after school environments.
• Experience working with school-aged children from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
• Specific area of expertise that you are passionate about and eager to share with students, such as (but not limited to): art, cooking/nutrition, dance, creative writing, environmental science, foreign language, geography, LEGO Robotics, team sports, ultimate Frisbee, etc.
• Desire and ability to work with children to ensure an enriching, positive, and safe classroom setting.
• Ability to effectively work within a strength-based, integrated youth support service delivery system.
• Ability to document work continually and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Possess strong organizational and time-management skills and ability to prioritize and complete multiple and varied tasks;
• Sensitivity and ability to relate to people from diverse lifestyles, socioeconomic levels, and cultures;
• Willingness to work as a team member and support the mission and goals of Impact NW.
• Must be able to complete and pass an Oregon Background check including fingerprinting prior to start date.

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

• Familiarity/experience with Microsoft Office software and basic computer programs.
