Job Description

U.S. Bancorp Impact Finance (USBIF) provides tax credit investments, loans, and banking services to organizations and projects that support affordable housing, economic development, and job creation in communities across the country.

The Relationship Manager position is part of the Specialty Finance team within USBIF. Specialty Finance provides loans, patient investments, and banking services to Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs), Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Syndicators, CDFI Consortiums, and for New Markets Tax Credit transactions. The Relationship Manager will report to the Director of Specialty Finance and will work closely with staff across the team and department.

The Relationship Manager position represents an exciting opportunity to be a key contributor to a growing business line within USBIF. Candidates will be able to combine their experience in banking and finance with a passion for impact investing and economic development across the country.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Source, negotiate, underwrite, and close loans to CDFIs, CDFI Consortiums, LIHTC Syndicators, and other similar community development organizations.

  • Source new business through establishing and deepening relationships with existing clients, and prospecting new clients.

  • Underwrite a prospective borrower’s ability to repay subject loans, including in-depth analysis of financial performance/financial statements, and assessing the credit quality of the borrower’s loan portfolio.

  • Prepare comprehensive written credit memos and recommend credit approval to USBIF senior management and U.S. Bank Credit Risk Management.

  • Negotiate legal documentation with borrowers, in coordination with internal and external legal counsel.

  • Coordinate with portfolio managers and loan servicing team to manage existing relationships, including completion of annual reviews, ongoing covenant compliance, and internal credit audits.

  • Coordinate with USBIF Deposit & Payment Solutions team and U.S. Bank Capital Markets to provide banking services and capital markets transactions to customers.

  • Provide leadership and support for strategic initiatives aligned with U.S. Bank’s Access Commitment and USBIF’s Racial Equity Agenda.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master's degree, or equivalent work experience

  • Ten or more years of commercial lending experience


Preferred Skills/Experience

  • Travel up to 5% is required

  • Experience in underwriting, LIHTC, and CDFIs is preferred

  • Strong relationship management and business development/sales skills

  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Considerable knowledge of credit and credit quality

  • Thorough knowledge of bank products and services

  • Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups in managing customer relationships

  • Excellent presentation, verbal and written communication skills

  • Previous small business banking experience

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, US Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401k contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $139,995.00 - $164,700.00 - $181,170.00
