Position Summary:

As a member of the Human Resources team, the Human Resources Business Partner contributes to the development and management of human resources’ programs and guidelines for recruitment, employee satisfaction, performance management, employee relations, and organizational development. They serve as first point of contact to Hiring Managers regarding recruitment, to management staff regarding employee relations and development support, and to all staff regarding engagement. The HRBP will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer and will have exposure to a broad range of human resources functions.


Position Description:

The Human Resources Business Partner’s responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Support managers and employees by leveraging people, programs, processes, and systems, and educating on policies and best practices.
  • Serve as a resource to staff and managers throughout the foundation by responding to their HR needs and fostering employee engagement and satisfaction, effectively communicating processes and procedures, and ensuring that they are provided a wide range of quality HR support.
  • In partnership with the Director of Talent Management, ensure a consistent, transparent recruiting and hiring process across the organization, incorporating skills-based practices and a DEI lens for hiring at all levels.
  • Partner with hiring managers to develop job descriptions, profile positions, provide salary recommendations based on internal equity, competitiveness in the market, and legal requirements, structure and support the interview process, coach on the selection and candidate offer, and ensure completion of offer letters and onboarding administration.
  • In collaboration with Director of Talent Management and other Foundation leaders, develop and continually enhance cross-foundation orientation and onboarding initiatives for new hire cohorts.
  • Lead bi-annual employee engagement survey/outreach, including resulting communications and action planning.
  • Advise on hiring of temporary employees and consultants and ensure appropriate tracking and documentation.
  • Track and maintain annual staffing plan.
  • Collaborate/advise on employee relations’ matters and ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws.
  • Utilize and maintain an HRIS database to verify employee information and run reports, if required.
  • Draft HR communications and required annual notices.


Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelors’ Degree, HR certification, and/or 10+ years related on-the-job experience
  • Knowledge of Human Resources functions, policies, procedures, and employment law
  • Familiarity with the administration of benefits and other HR programs
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with HR data management and reporting
  • Superior interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills
  • Self-awareness to appropriately distinguish when to make decisions, offer solutions, and/or seek guidance
  • Demonstrated multitasking, organizational, problem-solving, and team-playing skills
  • Detailed oriented
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, integrity, and diplomacy
  • Flexible and friendly approach to applicants, fellow employees, and managers
  • Manage work and decisioning through a lens of equitable and inclusive practices, continuous improvement, and with a client service orientation

The Mellon Foundation is committed to providing compensation that is competitive and equitable within the philanthropic sector. The estimated salary range for this role is $180,000-210,000. The amount of pay offered will be determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to qualifications, unique skills, credentials or experience that is expected to impact the candidate’s contribution to the role. We will also consider market data as well as the Foundation’s internal pay equity framework.
