THE ROLE
Position: Hotel Engineering Supervisor - Embassy Suites, Tuscaloosa
Reports To: Chief Engineer
Compensation: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour

POSITION PROFILE:
To repair and maintain the structure of the hotel and equipment according to established standards, possessing in-depth training in Maintenance, HVAC, Refrigeration, and Plumbing to resolve operational and safety concerns and provide for preventative maintenance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:
  • Supervise, develop and maintain ongoing maintenance of the hotel including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, preventative maintenance, ice machines, swimming pools, lighting, emergency generators, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical equipment, etc.
  • Ensures equipment and meter readings are done, properly and accurately reports readings to the Chief Engineer. Logs all readings and preventative maintenance records in the hotel system on a regular basis to comply with company standards.
  • Ensures all projects assigned by Chief Engineer are completed according to specifications and on time.
  • Works closely with Chief Engineer and Executive Housekeeper to ensure coordination of activities and repairs.
  • At the direction of the Chief Engineer, instructs any tradesmen/vendors in scheduling work, ordering materials, and completing assignments by a specified date.
  • Adjusts work procedures to meet schedules and recommends methods to improve procedures

  • Resolves work problems within the scope of knowledge and assists Line Engineer in resolving problems and accomplishing work objectives
  • Suggests plans to motivate workers.
  • Tracks and performs assigned projects as instructed by Chief Engineer such as preventative maintenance, equipment maintenance, and other on-going maintenance needs.
  • Handles emergency and daily calls for repairs as the need arises to ensure optimum guest service and product quality.
  • At the direction of the Chief Engineer, inspects the workmanship of contracted vendors and Line Engineer to ensure quality work.
  • Completes brand and c company training as required.
  • Maintains hotel property, performing routine painting, plumbing, electrical wiring, and other related maintenance activities, using hand tools.
  • Notifies Chief Engineer concerning need for major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilation equipment.
  • Maintains, furnace, air-conditioner, and boiler to provide heat, cool air, and hot water for guests.
  • Performs general repair and maintenance of refrigeration units; ie., coolers, freezers or ice machines.
  • Performs general repair and replacement of all types of plumbing systems.
  • Conducts systematic checks on all electrical appliances and circuits; being able to repair most major problems.
  • Handles all in-house repairs consisting of removing and replacing tile, wall vinyl, paint, wall board, carpentry, etc.
  • Uses basic hand and power tools required for general maintenance.
  • Restores hotel areas to meet inspection standards.
  • Performs timely, quality preventative maintenance repairs in guest rooms, public restrooms, elevators, and commercial areas.
  • Inspects and repairs room according to established stands and frequency.
  • documents and maintains inspections and work performed on each room on checklist.
  • Completes work orders for repairs outside the the preventative maintenance schedule, as needed.
  • Follows prescribed procedure for temporarily blocking rooms scheduled for service
  • Provides exemplary guest service to all customers and fellow employees.
  • Regular and punctual attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
DESIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: One to two years of post-high school education; one or two-year certificate program in building maintenance, technology or related field.
Experience: Minimum of five years of building maintenance experience in a leadership role or a related management position.
Skills and Abilities: Ability to perform critical analysis and manage a wide-range of information. Has natural instincts and insight for finding the best solution to unclear situations, issues and problems. Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources. Require investigating and analyzing current activities and/or information in a specialized field involving available data and indicating logical conclusions and recommendations. Communicate information and hotel services to management, staff and guests.
