Job Description
Position Summary:
A member of the revenue cycle process, the Billing/Follow-up Representative is responsible for contacting insurance payers to review claims that have not paid after a reasonable period of time and follow through to resolutions. The Billing/Follow-up Representative is responsible for knowing current rules and regulations for each payer. Major responsibilits include account research, potentially rebilling accounts and seeing accounts with pending balances through the resolution. Billing /follow-up reps could also be responsible for reviewing accounts, correcting claim edits, preparing and completing claims for submission to payers, and updating patient accounting systems. The Billing/Follow-up Reps also perform related functions in support of the Patient Financial Services operations and other duties, as assigned:
Essential Job Functions:

- Ensure complains with payer rules and regulations
- Effectively use computer systems
- Documents patient information clearly and completely in the HIS and billing systems
- Perform routine follow-up on outstanding insurance balances
- Review and work appropriate accounts to maximize A/R reductions and minimize write offs
- Review payer denials and underpayments and work to resolutions
- Complete claims for review and processing by the supervisor
- Interact with other departments to resolve outstanding payer balances
- Refer accounts requiring escalations to Supervisor in a timely manner
- Attend all necessary training sessions to effectively erform the day-day
- Performs all other duties assigned by supervisor and/or designee
Minimum Qualifications
1. A Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited college or university; or
2. Graduation from a Senior High School or a High School Equivalency Diploma; and
3. Four (4) years of experience in interviewing, casework or a related field preferably in a hospital or health care facility setting; or
4. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
