  • Responsible for supervising a horticulture inmate work crew for the Department of Corrections Headquarters Complex (Columbia).
  • Develop and implement a year-round Horticulture Program.
  • Supervise an inmate work detail.
  • Perform basic grounds maintenance.
  • Manage greenhouse, flower beds and vegetable garden.
  • Responsible for maintenance, control and accountability of tools, equipment, toxic-caustic and flammable substances.
  • Administrative and other job duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in extreme temperatures.
  • Schedule subject to change.
** Monday-Friday work week
**15 days of paid vacation

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and custodial, grounds keeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment.

SCDC Minimum Requirements: (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).


  • A High school diploma.
  • Three (3) relevant program experience related to grounds maintenance, greenhouse management and landscaping experience.


Must be able to obtain a SC pesticide applicator's license within one (1) year of hire.
