Job description
- Responsible for supervising a horticulture inmate work crew for the Department of Corrections Headquarters Complex (Columbia).
- Develop and implement a year-round Horticulture Program.
- Supervise an inmate work detail.
- Perform basic grounds maintenance.
- Manage greenhouse, flower beds and vegetable garden.
- Responsible for maintenance, control and accountability of tools, equipment, toxic-caustic and flammable substances.
- Administrative and other job duties as assigned.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in extreme temperatures.
- Schedule subject to change.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
A high school diploma and custodial, grounds keeping or maintenance experience directly related to the area of employment.
SCDC Minimum Requirements: (Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources).
- A High school diploma.
- Three (3) relevant program experience related to grounds maintenance, greenhouse management and landscaping experience.
Must be able to obtain a SC pesticide applicator's license within one (1) year of hire.
