About the Role

To perform the job of Histology Technician successfully, the individual is required to perform, but not limited to: the preparation of quality tissue samples for histopathologic evaluation; identification of tissue samples for proper embedding orientation; microtomy skills; performance routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining procedures; knowledge of the use and maintenance of equipment used for the preparation of tissue samples and the ability to maintain a clean and orderly laboratory environment.

Evening hours with pay differential is available.

What You'll Do Here

• Maintains and documents the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment
• Maintains a safe, clean and orderly laboratory environment
• Performs paraffin tissue processing
• Identifies required tissue sample orientation and performs paraffin embedding procedures
• Uses microtomy skills in the preparation of routine (paraffin embedded) microscopic slides according to standard operating procedures and/or required by study protocols
• Performs routine hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining as well as cover slipping microscopic slides
• Troubleshoots equipment and/or operation failures and takes appropriate actions to keep interruptions to a minimum
• Analyzes raw data collection and solves for deviation in standard operating procedures (SOP) and/or protocol requirements
• Disposition of hazardous chemical, generation of the hazardous chemical lab pack and data entry to the laboratory hazardous chemical records
• Ordering of warehouse supplies and data entry to laboratory inventory records may be assigned

What You'll Need to Succeed

• Associate's degree (AA), specializing in science, preferred
• Work experience includes, but not limited to at least 1+ years laboratory experience and/or training HT (ASCP) eligible within one year of employment
• Identification of tissue organs and/or tissue samples; microtomy skills and routine hematoxylin and eosin staining preferred

Handles and disposes biological and/or chemical substances and wastes in accordance with applicable policies and procedures

• Wears appropriate PPE in accordance with policies and procedures. PPE may include, but is not limited to: N-95 respirator, face mask, safety glasses, goggles, face shield, gloves, and lab coat

What We Offer

The pay range estimated for this position is $22.25-$28.27 (per hour rates or annually). Please note that hourly rates/salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience, skills, education, certification, location as well as internal equity and market data.
