ROLE OVERVIEW:

Monroe College-Bronx, a Division III member of the NJCAA, is seeking a Head Women’s Basketball Coach responsible for the organization, development and leadership of the Monroe Mustangs women’s basketball program in support of the mission and core values of Monroe College. Duties include recruiting and retaining qualified prospective student-athletes, establishing a competitive schedule, planning and strategizing practices, and promoting strong academic progress and high graduation rates.

The overall responsibility of a Monroe coach is to provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes. The coach is responsible for the overall management of team operations, and a leader in all aspects of day to day operations and student-athlete progress.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

o Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes

o Responsible for the overall management of team operations

o Leader in all aspects of day to day operations and student-athlete progress

o Design and implement practice plans

o Coordinate, promote, and develop all facets of the respective sport program

o Responsible for implementing a recruiting plan for the program

o Assign geographical areas, identify recruiting events and locations, and supervise coaching staff in the recruitment of student-athletes

o Coordinate, direct, and manage the coaching staff

o Delegate responsibilities to coaches in order to ensure a positive and well-rounded collegiate experience to student-athletes

o Supervise coaching staff in the implementation of practice plans

o Direct coaching staff during competition to provide preparation to our student-athletes

o Overall management of student-athletes on and off the field

o Monitor academic progress and ensure progress towards degree standards

o Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary, and personal matters

o Consult with college administration, staff, and faculty for resolution of issues as required

o Implement a code of conduct and ethical standards to team members as it relates to the Monroe College Athletics Mission Statement and the Monroe College philosophy

o Adhere to Monroe College and NJCAA policy to ensure compliance with the college, Region 15 Conference, and NJCAA

o Responsible for the scheduling of competition as allowed by budgetary measures

o Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations

o Monitor, verify, and reconcile team expenditures of budgeted funds and conduct inventory of athletic equipment

o Manage operational budget in accordance to Athletic Director’s recommendations

o Represent Monroe College in a professional, civic, and charitable manner

o Official representative of the institution on the field of play

o Possess a strong work ethic, carry a high level of integrity, character, and honesty

o Promote sportsmanship among participants of the team and opponents

o Direct various personnel functions

o Identify quality candidates as potential assistant coaches and make recommendations to administration in acquiring the services of the individuals

o Provide performance appraisals on coaching staff as requested by administration

o Ability to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, have the ability to travel, and possess communication skills to work with a diverse constituency including students, parents, coaches, faculty, staff, administration, and outside contacts

o Flexibility to attend functions organized by Monroe College with intent to educate, share, and celebrate the Monroe College philosophy and the success of our students

o Directly report to the Athletic Director on all team matters as it pertains to operational, academic, social, and personal issues

o May have the opportunity to teach or serve as an administrator within their scope of practice and expertise

o Possess a valid driver’s license
