St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Ann Arbor, MI is seeking a director for our handbell choirs, which serve throughout the school year. The purpose of the handbell choirs is to give glory to God, enhance the beauty of the liturgy, and so to assist the people of the parish in worshiping God. The director will help the ringers to fulfill this role with excellence through effective rehearsal, musicianship, and above all, by modeling a life of prayer and a love for our Lord.

We have two all-volunteer 3-octave choirs which rehearse 3 evenings/month and ring at 2-3 Masses/month, at varying Mass times. In addition to preparing the choirs for their role, the handbell director is also responsible for selecting repertoire and arranging music as needed. The choirs also serve on Christmas Eve, the Easter Vigil, Easter Sunday, and occasionally at other important events in the life of the parish or even local community events. This is a part-time salaried position with an anticipated average workload of 8 hours per week during the school year, of which 4-5 hours are on-site for Mass or rehearsal. Other needed work such as planning, personal preparation, or communication with staff and volunteers can often be completed remotely. Familiarity with handbells is beneficial, but not required.
