  • Hourly rate is an estimate only which includes shift differential for nights, evenings, or weekend shifts. Overall hourly rates will vary based on schedule.

Primary Purpose:

The Grossing Technologist Trainee is a training position within the Gross Dissection laboratory that assists in the examination, gross dictation and processing of specimens, preparation of tissue for frozen section diagnosis, performance of postmortem examinations, and other duties associated with the lab environment. This position also performs a variety of support functions to ensure timely completion of pathology services.

Physical and Other Requirements:

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.

PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies.

ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.

Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.

Continuing Education: Continual assessment of current literature and best practices.

Qualifications

Education

Required

High School Diploma or Equivalent or better.

Preferred

Associates Degree or better in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field.

Experience

Required

An Associate’s degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology Or two years (60 semester hours) of college coursework to include; 24 semester hours of science, 6 semester hours of chemistry, 6 semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination

Preferred

Courses in Anatomy and Physiology and introductory college class work in a pathology assistant program
Experience as an Autopsy/Surgical Pathology assistant
