The FDF Group is made up of (6) long established businesses spread throughout The Midwest and Southeastern regions.

Summary: The Application Engineer designs and develops components and systems per customer request, modifying existing designs. She/ he applies engineering principles to develop mechanical or electronic/ electrical products/ systems that meet customer technical/functional specifications as well as manufacturing cost/efficiency requirements. He/ he conducts mathematical modelling to determine if proposed designs are technically feasible.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review customer design requests, specifications, manuals and other data to evaluate the feasibility & cost of requested system/ product
  • Defines customer product requirements, completes design specifications and plans accordingly to meet customer requirements
  • Generates customer proposals
  • Assists with project management (i.e. Obtain, evaluate competitive bids and negotiate with suppliers; Assist with production plans for projects, taking quality requirements and contract obligations into account)
  • Regularly provides equipment/system/ process/ training recommendations to improve reliability and/or performance. Follows thru to completion. Fully participates in continuous improvement activities
  • Resolves production problems that arise with manufacturing team

All other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Associates (two-year technical school) degree or certificate in technical discipline such as mathematics, mechanical technology, or equivalent. (Bachelor's in mathematics, Engineering, Physics, Industrial Science or other technical discipline preferred) or relevant training/education/experience in mechanical &/or electrical design for systems/ products/ assemblies"
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in specified product segment
  • Computer software skills (e.g. Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, Adobe PDF)
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed, cross-functional environment
  • Highly organized, with attention to detail
  • Sense of urgency; responds to requests in a timely manner.
  • Strong (email, phone, web and in person) communication and customer service skills. (Prior experience in a customer service role preferred).
