Organizational Overview:
The Greater Newark Health Care Coalition (GNHCC) began in 2008 as a vehicle for response to the closure of two Newark hospitals. As the crisis abated, the participants determined that there was value in the continuation of an organization comprising high-level representatives of Newark area entities concerned with access to high-quality health care, in particular access to primary care in the greater Newark area. Over time, the organization grew to include leaders from hospitals, primary health care, educational institutions, advocacy organizations, behavioral health organizations, visiting nurse organizations, and others. The New Jersey and Newark Health Departments are represented ex officio. Since its inception, GNHCC has undertaken diverse initiatives aimed at addressing health disparities and promoting equitable care to transform and improve health outcomes for our region.

The vision of Greater Newark Health Care Coalition (GNHCC) is for all residents of Newark, East Orange, and Irvington to have a fair and just opportunity to attain their highest level of health. GNHCC is one of four state designated Regional Health Hubs (RHHs) in New Jersey working with both clinical and social service providers to improve patient care and outcomes for Medicaid beneficiaries. In furtherance of this vision, and role as an RHH, GNHCC plays four key roles: it convenes community stakeholders, collects and analyzes data, pilots programs, and advances advocacy and policy. GNHCC focuses on three areas of work: maternal & infant health, child & adolescent health, and topical regional community health.

Responsibilities:

Position Overview
:

GNHCC is seeking an experienced leader with a background in public or community health who will serve as the senior-most executive reporting directly to the Board of Trustees. The executive director is responsible for all aspects of the coalition’s operations and performance including but not limited to:


Grants identification, development and management.

  • It is expected that the incumbent will take the lead in writing, submitting and implementing health related grants that will enhance the work of GNHCC.

Staff supervision, management and development

  • The incumbent will serve as a leader for all staff and will help to enhance individual and team capabilities through coaching and allowing for continuing professional development. As the senior-most leader, the executive director should be skilled at delegating tasks and empowering others while managing to results.
Relationship and network development
  • The incumbent will develop, maintain and strengthen trusting relationships with partners, stakeholders, community leaders and colleagues at all levels in order to achieve lasting mutual benefits that help to improve health outcomes. A high level of emotional intelligence and effective interpersonal communication skills are essential.
Subject matter knowledge and ongoing learning
  • The incumbent should have general knowledge about all of the clinical areas of focus for the GNHCC. Ongoing learning about these topics and others are expected as well as mastering the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to serve as an effective leader. These skills include successfully managing personal and professional priorities.
Outcome focused with attention to detail
  • The incumbent will strive for excellence in all duties with attention to detail and a focus on innovative problem solving. The incumbent will be proficient in the development and use of dashboards and other tools to measure the effectiveness of the work of GNHCC staff and programs will be developed to further a systemic approach to organizing, planning, and executing GNHCC activities.
Strategic planning
  • In consultation with the Board of Trustees, the incumbent will develop and implement a strategic planning process that includes community-based partners, local governmental leaders, healthcare organizations and other interested parties. This planning will incorporate the priorities outlined by the State of New Jersey in its guidance to the Regional Health Hubs (RHHs).
Assuring financial stability and growth
  • The incumbent will assure the financial health of the organization by ensuring the maintenance of sound financial practices, by identifying additional sources of revenue, by managing expenses appropriately, and by preparing an annual budget for the review and approval by the Board of Trustees.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications and Experience:
  • Demonstrated personal commitment to the Mission, Vision and work of the GNHCC
  • Demonstrated leadership experience to take on the tasks described above
  • An advanced degree in a field relevant to the work of the Greater Newark Healthcare Coalition.
  • Clinical experience in working with a vulnerable population, or administrative and leadership experience leading a community or public health program
