SUMMARY
The Epidemiologist Analyst will support a team of epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and analysts in supporting the Senior Managing Epidemiologist and Defense Health Agency Army Satellite in accomplishing the division’s mission and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following:
- Supports the Army Satellite (AS) leadership in accomplishing the division’s mission and objectives.
- Supports the Senior Epidemiologists in accomplishing their tasks and objectives.
- Uses expertise in SAS and SQL programming to acquire and analyze personnel and health data for military-related epidemiological studies (adhoc or recurrent) received by AS.
- Assists in quality assurance verification of programming codes contained in past and current reports and requests.
- Works with epidemiologists, biostatisticians, preventive medicine and public health professionals, and research analysts within DHA AS and DCPH-A to rapidly deploy public health epidemiologic capabilities for the DoD using provided data resources.
- Assists in the development, planning, testing, validation, and execution of military-related epidemiological studies (adhoc or recurrent) received by DHA AS using sound epidemiologic and biostatistical knowledge and data resources.
- Informs and involves the stakeholders in creating and validating assumptions and procedures required to resolve any data quality issues.
- Maintains proficiency in SAS®, SQL® and other programming skills, and shall remain current on public health issues.
- Assists or leads quality assurance projects on maintaining the highest data quality of products provided to end-users.
- Assists or leads functional activities within DHA AS that are necessary to support DCHP-A mission such as (but not limited to):
- Maintenance of functional documents necessary to perform daily functions
- Production of health surveillance summaries, reports, and presentations (e.g., ad hoc briefings, white papers, slides, and other types of documents summarizing analytic activities and studies).
- Analysis, planning, and implementation of changes in functional processes.
- Planning and provision of training for staff and customers in epidemiology, biostatistics, programming, SAS, SQL or other topics pertinent in the practice of health surveillance and public health practice.
- Protection of PHI/PII while in use for analysis and while in storage in approved storage systems.
- Follows established quality assurance processes and plan in ensuring accuracy of reports, summaries, and analyses prior to distribution and in protection of PHI/PII.
- May collaborate with Government and contract personnel in the DHA AS, DCPH-A or from other DoD/Federal agencies in planning, designing, and analysis of sound epidemiological studies to submit for publication in peer-reviewed medical or scientific journals.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in Public Health is required.
- Desires a minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in epidemiology, health services research, biostatistics, health economics or a related field.
- Desires a minimum of 4 years of experience programming in SAS, SQL.
- Epidemiological or biostatistical work experience (highly preferred).
- Experience with analysis of large databases. DoD health-related databases (i.e., SIDR, CAPER, TEDI, TEDNI, TMDS, TRAC2ES, and military personnel data) to perform longitudinal analyses, preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- The Epidemiologist Analsyt, must have a solid public health background (training, writing and reading) and detailed knowledge and experience with statistical software including SAS®; familiarity with Oracle® database structures; and experience using SQL®.
- Possess excellent organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written oral and written communications skills.
- Team player and collaborates well with professionals.
- Must be a US citizen.
- Must have or be able to obtain a DoD clearance.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen and a background investigation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The Epidemiologist Analyst is a hybrid position, Tele-work and Climate-controlled office.
Estimated Starting Salary Range: $70,000.00 - $ 90,000.00 annually.
