Job Summary:


The research in the Schwartz/Yang Lab focuses on understanding how a combination of genetic factors and environmental exposures contribute to an individual's disposition to develop interstitial lung disease, such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and sarcoidosis. State-of-the-art genetic and genomic approaches, including whole genome sequencing (WGS), transcriptome, epigenome, and proteome studies are used to identify targets and biomarkers of early disease in human cohorts. These targets are then studied in animal and cell models. This position will focus on epigenomic and transcriptomic profiling of lung cells and functional follow up of identified loci in cell culture using CRISPR-dCas9 approaches.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Detailed record keeping using a lab notebook and an established LIMS system.
  • Sample management of large sample sets including prepping and shipping samples to collaborators and receiving new samples.
  • Extraction and QC of DNA and RNA from various tissue types.
  • Responsibility for your own research projects.
  • Proper hazardous waste management and training module completion.
  • Regular attendance at lab meetings.

Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field
    • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
  • This position requires detailed record keeping and the ability to perform basic analyses of collected data. Individuals will be expected to collaborate in the design and execution of multiple research projects.

Anticipated Pay Range:


The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $40,280 to $51,236.

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
