Position Title:
Electrician

Position Start Date: March 27, 2023

Position Type: Unit C-Maintenance

FTE: 1.0 - 40 hours per week - Regular, ongoing

Work Schedule: 261 Days

Pay Range:* $28.88 - $33.49

Summary:

Installation, alteration, maintenance & repair of electrical systems, HVAC controls, appliances & devices.

Responsibilities:

  • Lays out, installs, tests, replaces and repairs wires, fixtures and other devices and equipment in making extensions, additions, or alterations to electrical services for power, heating & ventilating, refrigeration & lighting systems.
  • Tests, replaces & repairs components of defective or worn-out electrical systems and equipment such as transformers, pumps, generators, boiler controls, air conditioning units & other devices and equipment.
  • Lays out and installs electrical distribution systems in small electrical projects.
  • Calculates electrical load factors on single-phase & multi-phase systems for lighting and power.
  • Traces and locates defects in various types of electrical equipment; reads and interprets blueprints and schematics of equipment & installations.
  • Provides estimates of materials, time & labor; may order and maintain stock of electrical supplies.
  • Works on high voltage equipment as necessary.
  • May instruct/train less-skilled workers.
  • May perform tasks in other trades to a limited degree.
  • Carries out oral and written directions. Accurately documents work performed on work orders defining problem and solution. Enters time and Work Order numbers accurately on time cards.
  • Communicates and coordinates problem resolution with schools, district staff and outside contractors.
  • Conducts PM’s on facility and site, systems and equipment for maintenance and safety issues; makes repairs as required or provides recommendations to the District for correction.
  • Respond as essential personnel in case of an emergency, weather or environmental event, and/or school/facility/district closure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year experience in the electrical trade, Journeyman level skills.
  • Must have completed asbestos O & M training.
  • Must have a State of Colorado Journeyman Electrician’s License.
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Preferred:


  • Good working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Knowledge of the proper use of voltmeters, ammeters, hydraulic pipe benders, volt & amp recording equipment.
  • Knowledge of motors & transformers.
  • Understands lay out, installation and troubleshooting commercial & industrial electrical distribution systems.
  • Ability to read & follow blueprints & schematics.
  • Ability to calculate electrical load factors on 120V-220V, 277V-480V single phase & 208V and 480V multi-phase systems for lighting and power.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards & safety precautions of the electrical trade.
  • Ability to make accurate estimates of time & materials.
  • May require working in cramped quarters, dusty conditions, & in unfavorable weather conditions.
  • Ability to be on feet up to eight hours every day
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds; occasional dual lifts of up to 100 pounds and requires ability to frequently reach, lift, bend and stoop; may occasionally require climbing ladders or crawling
  • Must be able to work from high ladders, scaffolds & platforms.

Salary Information:

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.

  • Pay range listed above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule). BVSD engages in a salary placement process vs. a salary negotiation process.
