Divisional Merchandise Manager
Position Summary:
The Divisional Merchandise Manager (DMM) is a key leader in the organization, responsible for driving the overall product and assortment strategy for Galls to deliver successful results as measured by sales, gross profit, margin rate, GMROI and other key metrics. Serves as the leader of the merchandise team, responsible for establishing strategies that will deliver through all Galls sales channels including Galls, US Patriot and Ecommerce through the development of the merchant team, vendor relationship and business productivity, cross-functional collaboration with key internal stakeholders and operational execution. Overseas all merchandising activity including distribution and private brand sourcing. Serves as a key leader within the Merchandising and Inventory peer group, effecting company direction through the management of the product and vendor portfolio.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Through leadership of the product merchant team direct and indirect reports which includes distribution merchants and the private label sourcing functions, position Galls as the respected industry leader and category captain for all Galls customer types.
- Through leadership of the merchandising team, own, improve, and leverage all vendor relationships for the benefit of the Galls business. Create opportunities for sustained growth, financially viable product differentiation, market advantages and ensure vendor performance to goals across all metrics including margin, supply chain and sales fulfillment.
- Synthesize Galls corporate strategies into Merchandising strategies as it relates to vendor portfolio and product assortment with attention to inventory management, overstock and seasonal SKUs, market trends, GMROI, Turn, EBITDA and NWC achievement, margin requirements and customer service levels.
- Manage the Galls portfolio of vendors and products to maximize SKU optimization, productivity, and the complete product life cycle including branded and private label products. Creates JBPs with key vendors. Conducts internal Monthly Business Reviews and vendor QBRs to adapt business activity to business fluctuations for budget achievement.
- Lead the strategic product planning process and line reviews to grow respective categories in terms of sales and gross profit, as well as common strategies around shared initiatives to drive improvement within the enterprise. Sets the future direction of Merchandising and responsible for delivering the strategic plan.
- Lead and manage the Private Label sourcing function to deliver on PL sales and margin growth.
- Oversee shifts in priorities throughout the year to report progress and shifts in execution.
Leadership and Team Development
- Lead the merchandising team, setting annual goals, growth plans and execution with alignment to cross-functional areas of the company. Conducts frequent, formal coaching to ensure progress on measurable goals.
- Manage key vendor relationships and assigned growth projects.
- Through efforts of continuous improvement, work cross-functionally to streamline processes, improve business behaviors, and promote efficiency with the ability to connect to financial impact.
- Responsible for attracting and retaining best in class talent for the merchandising department. Facilitate/engage teams with leadership and business skills training, mentor future leaders and continually coach for excellence.
- Communicating roles and responsibilities, establishing goals, prioritizing workload, conducting talent reviews and support development.
- Communicate strategies, tactics, results, and initiatives effectively across the organization including peers, cross-functional stakeholders, and senior leadership. Draw awareness, create influence, and secure resources to deliver on responsibilities.
Financial Performance
- Achieve yearly financial plans through productive assortments, vendor contract improvements, sourcing opportunities, margin enhancement activity, pricing strategies, cost reduction negotiations, increased SKU productivity and enterprise channel extensions (First Sight, Fire, Military, Fed/Mil)
- Enhance the financial productivity of categories and vendors through deep SKU optimization efforts, vendor pricing negotiations, vendor program enhancements and life cycle management.
- Oversee team category selection and goals for assortments via performance analysis and assessments of financial analysis, marketplace, consumer, and Galls customer requirements.
- Lead and manage the Private Sourcing Manager to increase share of PL business and drive margin improvement using savvy product sourcing.

- Must demonstrate knowledge/experience of managing a >$300M P&L or Open to Buy.
- Must demonstrate knowledge/experience of managing merchandising metrics and their financial impact.
- Must have 5-10 years of experience in merchandising, distributing and/or retail.
