Director of Volunteer Engagement, Volunteer

About Pet Cancer Fund

The Pet Cancer Fund is a Vancouver-based organization whose vision is to increase the life expectancy and improve the quality of life of pets diagnosed with cancer.

Estimates suggest the number of dogs and cats developing cancer every year is 12 million; roughly 6x the number of humans getting cancer yearly within North America.

More needs to be done and as we set out to build a large team of distributed, animal-loving passionate volunteers to help our furry friends, we need Human Resources professionals to help in the administration of our organization.

That’s where and how you can help us.

About the Position

The Director of Volunteer Engagement is responsible for coordinating, delivering, and supporting programs to volunteers and partners. As Director, you will work closely with the Director of Communications, Director of Client Services and Resources, and the Director of Human Resources to build community and drive the PCF culture aligning volunteers with the organization giving strategy, empowering them to connect deeply with our clients, community partners/sponsors and each other on important causes. This volunteer role will have a profound and lasting impact on the organization as we work to create a human-style cancer agency for pets and their humans.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help prepare/develop programs to build volunteer engagement and foster volunteerism and greater connection to the organization goals and mission while advancing the public image of PCF among volunteers.
  • Encourage and help develop Volunteer Training Program and Volunteer Resource Groups by connecting the right teams, departments, and resources for better alignment of efforts and more effective results.
  • Encourage and help develop Volunteer Champions to provide support to individual volunteers as needed and during the launch of new programs and services.
  • Track and record volunteer impact highlighting areas of strengths and weaknesses and provide guidance and resources as needed.
  • Lead development and management of Volunteer Intranet site. Collaborate with other appropriate staff to ensure up-to-date volunteer information is on organization website.
  • Produce, distribute, and be readily available to interpret data and stats related to volunteer engagement within PCF and how the data relates to potential and future fundraising goals.

About You

You understand the importance of the human resources of an organization, particularly in a volunteer context, and aim to support the achievement of the organization’s objectives through its most valuable asset: its people. You are passionate about the delivery of high-quality HR services. You are a strategic thinker and work best in a collaborative, team setting that is collectively seeking to grow a new, ever-changing organization. You have:

  • A degree or certification in Human Resource Management or related field or an acceptable combination of education and experience;
  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar role;
  • 3+ years’ experience and success with development of programs;
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft office tools and comfortable working in Google Documents;
  • Ability to demonstrate a high-level of tact and professionalism when acting as a representative of the organization;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines on a weekly basis.

What we provide you with

This leadership role is a generational opportunity to build a best-in-class worldwide organization that will make a difference in millions of animals' lives in the decades to come. The challenges of building an umbrella cancer agency from inception will provide learnings across the board while expanding your network of contacts that will be of assistance to your advancing private or non-profit career.
