Job description
Responsible for coordinating and directing work involving employee relations. This include responsibility for developing, interpreting and recommending program goals and objectives, policies, and procedures, and courses of action.
Primary Responsibilities
Essential functions include:
  • Directs the university’s employee relations programs, policies, and procedures. Acts as a consultant by advising supervisors and employees on issues related to employee relations, diversity, EEO, performance, and termination guidelines.


  • The primary point of contact for employee relations issues and concerns, request for information, guidance, and counseling and keep the HR team informed of all employee relations issues/concerns.

  • Assures the proper handling of allegations of discrimination, harassment, or unfair employee treatment contrary to University policies. Conducts and reviews investigations into allegations of harassment/discrimination.

  • Conduct exit interviews with departing employees and report the data appropriately
  • Serves as the HR-Deputy Title IX Coordinator
  • Responds to complaints/inquiries from external agencies in collaboration with the Office of Legal Affairs & General Counsel.

  • Monitors compliance with all federal and state regulations including, but not limited to, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1991 (Title VII), Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Office of Federal Contract Compliance Program and Executive Order 11246 (OFCCP), Equal Pay Act (EPA), Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA), Kentucky’s Council on Postsecondary Education’s (CPE) Committee on Equal Opportunities (CEO).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required in an HR-related field required and seven years of progressively responsible experience in employee relations. PHR/SPHR a plus.


  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, practices, rules, and regulations in the areas of human resources, affirmative action, equal opportunity, etc.
  • Ability to deal confidentially and sensitively with subject matter requiring privacy and respect
  • Experience conducting human resources-related investigations
  • Demonstrated ability to be a strong advocate and coalition builder
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external constituents and outside agencies

  • Understanding of and experience with issues that affect a large, highly diverse population with the ability to build effective teams and diverse work groups
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as solid analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to customer service
  • Supervisory experience preferred

  • Knowledge of major academic, employee relations, and diversity issues facing universities coupled with a strong vision for and commitment to employee engagement endeavors in a university setting preferred


Flexible work schedule but requires an on-campus presence
