Job description

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) functions as an advocate, supporter and educator to individuals with disabilities. They assist individuals with structured activities in the Day Program so they develop basic living and social skills to gain optimal independence and integration into the community. The primary goal is to provide services to enrich the lives of our participants to live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work as a team to facilitate Day Program activities for participants assisting the Team Lead
  • Monitor, assist, and participate with all Day Program participants
  • Provide transportation and scheduling of routes for participants
  • Demonstrate knowledge of participant(s) history, vulnerabilities, support plans and emergency procedures
  • Report any abuse or major concerns to your supervisor and follow the vulnerable adult policy
  • Respect participants as adults, maintain professional boundaries while assisting participants in establishing and maintaining community relationships and facilitating friendships
  • Offer assistance to the participants with all activities of daily living. Including, but not limited to: supervision and training in hygiene, toileting, dressing, nutrition, health care, support services, use of specialized equipment, leisure, community integration, and social interaction
  • Provision of safe vehicle operation including all passengers wearing a seatbelt, wheelchair tie downs, respecting speed limits, following agency policy, and possessing a valid driver's license at all times
  • Maintain medication passing ability and administer medication as trained and per doctor's order, also provide accurate document progress
  • Perform routine cleaning and sanitation to promote a safe, clean and sanitary environment
  • Attend all required training including mandatory staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or under a work program with a written agreement.
  • Basic comprehension, reading, writing and speaking
  • Ability to pass MVR check and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Insurance and a state background check clearance.
  • Reliability, flexibility and positive communication
