Jamaica Cottage Shop, Inc, a privately held wood manufacturing company in South Londonderry, VT, is seeking a motivated Fleet Mechanic to join the team. We are a B2C direct distributor of fine post and beam buildings including storage sheds, cottages, tiny homes, garages, livestock shelters, woodsheds, etc.
The Fleet Mechanic will provide support to the Logistics Department for the entire fleet of trucks, trailers, vehicles, and various types of machinery/equipment in both Logistics and Production according to DOT and other regulatory requirements to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all company vehicles and equipment.
The Mechanic will diagnose component malfunctions and initiate repair actions, repair components by replacing worn or damaged parts with new or reconditioned parts, and correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems, such as brakes, hubs, bearings, seals, electrical, air conditioning, fuel, steering, hydraulics; control linkages, clutches, and traction units, etc., and may provide mechanical assistance at vehicle breakdown sites.
This position requires on-site work here in South Londonderry, VT Monday-Friday. A flexible schedule may be accommodated – please communicate scheduling needs during the hiring process.
Additional Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Perform repairs and routine to complex preventative maintenance on various types of fleet trucks, escort vehicles, automotive equipment, and machinery in support of Logistics and Production operations.
  • Keep up-to-date logs of all maintenance and communicate upcoming needs to be scheduled accordingly.
  • Clean, organize and maintain the work environment to ensure equipment longevity and workplace safety.
  • Inspect and evaluate results to ensure consistency and quality of finished work.
  • Participate in and may provide area safety training.
  • Work collaboratively with others to order and receive parts and supplies as needed.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to all established safety (OSHA) and environmental policies and standards including identification, use, and proper procedures for handling or disposal of hazardous wastes.
  • Complete required paperwork and adhere to all company policies and procedures.

Skills:
  • High School diploma and formal trades training preferred; however, willing to give the right candidate an opportunity based on experience, knowledge, and skills.
  • Proven experience successfully servicing and maintaining multiple types of trucks, vehicles, trailers, machinery, and equipment and demonstrated automotive, mechanical, and technical aptitude.
  • Full comprehension of diesel mechanics.
  • Valid driver’s license. Should have or be willing to obtain a CDL-B license.
  • Proficiency in English with verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exemplary planning and time management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize daily workload.
  • Up-to-date with advancements in tools, gadgets, etc.

  • Compensation: TBD based on experience and skills. $2,500 Sign-on Bonus: ½ at the 6-month mark and ½ at the 1-year mark.
