The George Washington University Law School Development and Alumni Relations Department (DAR) is responsible for leading the school’s alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations, foundations and other friends. Our goal is to advance GW’s mission of excellence in education, research and scholarship.
School-based development staff work in close collaboration with development staff across the DAR division to create and execute a sustainable development programs that will broaden GW’s base of philanthropic support. The Law DAR office establishes the overarching fundraising strategy for the Law School and incorporates best practices in development, insuring both consistency and high-quality standards in all university and School-based fundraising efforts.
This support position is responsible for providing programmatic and administrative support on various development activities. Core responsibilities include supporting fundraising professionals through the various development initiatives, including correspondence, creation of marketing materials, memorandums, letters, and gift agreements, in addition to travel, scheduling, and logistic support as needed. This position may serve as the primary point of contact for development related events (dinners, meetings, receptions), including assisting with the planning, execution, and follow up. This position also works to track activities related to fundraising programs and initiatives.
Additional Duties:
- Providing support for all aspects of prospect and donor meetings for the team including scheduling meetings, preparing donor correspondence and briefings, conducting donor research, orchestrating donor reports, preparing materials for visits, and managing pre- and post-visit activities including cultivation and stewardship activities.
- Managing arrangements for fundraising team travel including providing occasional support to the AVP and Dean, creating itineraries, and following up on work status.
- Maintaining comprehensive files and data including financial gift records and donor lists, proposals, history, tracking and accountability reports. Tracking donor activity, solicitations, pledges and gifts for the office and prepares reports on all donor activities.
- Managing PCard/Concur expense reporting for the members of the team as needed. Processing gifts on behalf of fundraising team and ensuring accurate allocation to funds while maintaining donor confidentiality.
- Developing and implementing a comprehensive timeline and calendar for the office and ensures projects, events, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities are executed on schedule.
- Assisting in the planning of and managing administrative support and execution for events as appropriate, which includes occasional evening and weekend work.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience working in an office environment. Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people from high-level donors to faculty to students.
- Capable of handling sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment with a focus on meeting deadlines.
- Strong computer skills, including Google and Microsoft Office Suites and Excel. Experience with Advance or a donor database a plus.
