Deputy Court Clerk I
DEPARTMENT: Tribal Court
SUPERVISED BY: Court Administrator
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Perform clerical activities to support the operation of the FMYN Tribal Court.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assists with processing, handling and maintenance of paperwork filed in Tribal Court;
· Reviews legal documents and court files for accuracy and completeness;
· Maintains court records;
· Maintains court calendar;
· Maintains statistical recording system:
· Issues and records summons, subpoenas and warrants;
· Accepts fees, fines, bonds and other monies required by law or order of the Court;
· Records receipt of such monies.
· Operates equipment to maintain verbatim testimony of court proceedings;
· Administers oaths to witnesses;
· Marks exhibits;
· Answers phones and directs callers to appropriate party;
· Takes and forwards messages;
· Assists with preparations of jury trials;
· Performs other duties as assigned or required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation Constitution, Law and Order Code,
Arizona Revised Statutes, Federal Indian Law;
· Knowledge of legal terminology and the required contents, information and
documents to be found in case files and court records;
· Skill in communicating and maintaining professionalism with the general public,
representatives from other non-governmental agencies, law enforcement,
prosecution and attorneys;
· Skill in operating office equipment including a variety of commonly used and/or
specialized software and/or operation systems/applications;
· Skill in assessing, evaluating, prioritizing and handling multitasks, projects and
demands;
· Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working
relationships with other departments of the Fort McDowell Indian Community
while also maintaining the impartial role of the Tribal Court;
· Ability in properly lifting and carry bulky boxes, court files, exhibits and other
materials weighing up to 25 pounds;
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and the understanding and following of complex
instructions, guidelines, policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
1) High school diploma or GED Certification 2) One year of clerical experience in a business or law office 3) Must have no felony convictions in any jurisdiction and no serious misdemeanor convictions within the past three years 4) Must submit to an FBI criminal history check 5) Current AZ drivers license and meet FMYN insurance standards.
PAYRATE: $33,226.66 to $39,871.99 Per Annum (DOE)
POSITION STATUS: Regular, Full-Time
