Basic Purpose
Responsibilities
- The data engineer will lead and perform the technical activities, of all complexities, ranging from analysis, design, testing and implementation to onboard and develop new data sources in pursuit of innovation
- Develop, maintain, and manage advanced reporting, dashboards, data models and analytical results
- Perform data quality control analysis (QA)
- Work directly with project leads to understand requirements and propose key analytics solutions to drive effective decision-making and influence business objectives
- Develop new techniques for onboarding data sources and deliver feedback and requirements for
- Analyze and summarize business operations, customer and/or economic data to improve business intelligence, optimize operating effectiveness and predict business outcomes
- Identify trends and patterns in business data; create data visualizations to support business decision making
- Implement and deploy with IT data pipelines to production environments
- Build new and/or modify existing database/data warehouse/data mart and business intelligence solutions to meet business and system requirements
- Collaborate with business units and senior management to conduct needs assessment to support business unit objectives
- Support complex Data Science and Big Data projects
- Effectively communicate data outcomes to business stakeholders and leadership
- Mentor and guide less experienced staff
- Drive the operationalization of data governance for their business unit
- Participate in data strategy planning for their business unit
- Act as a point of contact for the Business Data Owner and Technical Data Steward for governance related questions/concerns
- Ensure all data governance workstreams are implemented for their business unit (Program management; Policies, Standards, and Procedures; Metadata Management; Data Quality; Information Lifecycle Management) to ensure a streamlined data governance model is in place
- Identify downstream consumers / uses of data, and function as point of contact to answer questions and address issues related to the data within their business unit
- Provide and approve definitions, allowable values, and calculation/derivation logic for data attributes
- Ensure business data is identified and inventoried with complete, accurate, and quality metadata
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent combination of training, education, and experience
- Expert level skills & ability of various data structures and the ability to manipulate data within BI and Tableau (Tableau Desktop, Tableau Prep, and Tableau Server).
- Highly proficient in SQL/Python/R and relational data modeling
- Programming experience in SAS is a plus
- Ability to communicate end to end data outcomes visually and through story telling
- Ability to manipulate raw data into effective visualizations, reports, and dashboards
- Experience with ETL tools and techniques and provisioning data for analytics using Azure Databricks, Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Alteryx, Tableau Prep (or similar)
- Experience with data cleansing, data pipelines and other analytical techniques required for data usage
- Experience working with large datasets and analyzing requirements
- Experience with migrating dashboards and reports to Tableau and Power BI from other BI platforms
- Administration experience with Tableau, Power BI, and migration of infrastructure to the cloud
- Ability to understand the business problem and determine what aspects of it require optimization and be able to articulate those aspects in a clear and concise manner
- Ability to understand other projects or functional areas to consolidate analytical needs and processes
- Demonstrates a passion for analytics, data visualization, educating users, and customer enablement
- Demonstrates a high comfort level speaking in front of large audiences and possesses an executive presence
- Demonstrates change management and/or effective communication skills
- Ability to manage the process between updating and maintaining data source systems and implementing data related requirements
- Advanced understanding of business line/competitive environment
- Must have technical data knowledge, and ability to manage Technical Data Steward responsibilities when none is assigned for respective data domains
- Experience with system administration
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Business, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- In-depth knowledge and experience in Banking/Finance/Investments, familiar with terminology, concepts and business processes and systems
- Experience or knowledge of Azure or cloud
- Experience or knowledge of writing documentation
- Experience or knowledge in coding languages: SQL, Python, R, SAS, PySpark
- Experience or knowledge in Informatica
- Experience or knowledge in Collibra
- Understanding of data governance industry best practices
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations

Salary Range: $74,400 - $146,300 annually
Navy Federal Credit Union assesses market data to establish salary ranges that enable us to remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range, based on your experience, location and market position.
