Culinary Supervisor
Grant funded position through June 2024
Located a ½ mile from the Atlantic Ocean and 15 minutes from Portland, RSU 23 is a 700 student, three-school district. The successful candidate should possess the following:
QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid and current CHRC
- 2 or 4-year college degree (preferred)
- ServSafe Manager certification within 6 months of hire
- Support the Food Services Director in developing and overseeing nutritious menus for school breakfasts and school lunches
- Review and handle requests for special catering needs.
- Create focus groups with students and other methods of collecting student feedback on meal choices to improve selections and meet student requests.
- Review and change recipes to reduce sodium, fat and sugar to meet federal guidelines.
- Work with Kitchen Managers to ensure recipes are followed correctly.
- Work with kitchen staff to increase fruit and vegetable consumption through recipes, cooking techniques, marketing, display, etc.
- Work with School Nutrition Program personnel, school-based staff, and principals to increase participation in those schools with low breakfast and/or lunch participation
- Assist in the planning and implementation of Farm-to-School initiatives and assist with local food procurement.
- Provide culinary training with school nutrition staff annually during back to school training, as well as on an as-needed basis.
- Develop student-approved recipes that incorporate more scratch cooking but are realistic within our time and budget constraints.
- Provide rotating “Chef Specials” at each of the three district schools. This will provide an entree or other meal component that is a special item at that school for students or staff.
- Develop promotions for National School Breakfast Week, School Lunch Week, Nutrition Month, Milk Day, etc.
- Provide nutrition education in the classroom, for food service personnel, and to support staff wellness.
- Keep abreast of “Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act” and develop a plan for training and implementation to ensure compliance.
- Monitor local, state, and federal resources for grant opportunities and disseminate or apply when appropriate.
- Help coordinate and facilitate the School Wellness Team to review, support, and advocate for the School Wellness Policy.
- Work with Food Services Director to implement district-wide initiatives such as composting or greenhouse operations.
- Performs other duties assigned by the Director of Food & Nutrition Services.
