Crane & Equipment Operator / Wells Intervention Tech – Prudhoe Bay, AK
Job description
This is a remote/ rotational position, working two weeks on and two weeks off or three weeks on and three weeks off, in Prudhoe Bay, AK. The typical schedule is 84 hours per week (40 hours straight time and a minimum of 44 hours at time and a half). All meals and lodging are provided by Worley while the employee is on location. Transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided.
Job Purpose
Operates equipment which lifts, hoists, or moves materials for maintenance or construction purposes. The position is assigned to a crew and will assist in manual labor, i.e., hardline rig up, Well tie in, API bolt up, etc. Equipment operations are only part of the duties.
The position is located on the North Slope and requires a rotational work schedule (2 weeks on and 2 weeks off). Relocation assistance to Alaska is not provided, however transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided. Room and meals provided while in Prudhoe Bay.
Essential Job Functions
- Operate various equipment consisting of boom trucks, Grove cranes, and 45 to 90 ton hydraulic cranes.
- Moves hand levers, adjusts hand wheels and depresses pedals to drive machines and control attachments such as swing booms.
- Pre-check and inspect all equipment before operation, which includes checking the oil, fuel, general and visual inspection of the entire chassis (depending on the type of each equipment being operated) windshield, all mirrors, blade, tracks, wheel rims, thumping each tire and lug nuts, oil levels within wheel wells, and checking (while in operation) all moving parts such as handles, levers, and steering wheels.
- Check equipment operation log to see when vehicle was last maintained, such as oil change and lube jobs and make pre-operation notations in it pertaining to operating the designated piece of equipment that day.
- Notify foremen of recognized faulty equipment and red-tag it so that it will be unsafe to operate, until it is repaired and declared safe to operate by the mechanic.
- Attend training sessions and toolbox equipment/safety meetings required by organization.
- Ensure that crane has annual certifications.
- The position is required to perform physical labor when crane/equipment operations are not necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of computerized components in various kinds of machinery.
- Knowledge of the functional operation, purpose, capabilities, and limitations of any piece of equipment qualified to operate.
- Knowledge of safe equipment operations and maintenance of equipment.
- Skills in operating boom trucks and hydraulic cranes.
- Ability to read and understand the results and what each gauge signifies on each piece of equipment being operated.
- Ability to read, interpret or use capacity charts, rigging diagrams and common hand signals.
- Ability to demonstrate the safe accessories within the range of each piece of equipment operated.
- Must be able to follow all company, client, safety, and regulatory requirements, including, but not limited to, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines as they relate to this position and the work duties being performed.
- Ability to work at heights.

- Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges, and exhibit normal balance and coordination. - Lift 40 lbs. (e.g., shackles) from floor to knuckles x2 with a 12 second interval.
- Lift 40 lbs. (e.g., shackles) from floor to shoulders x2 with a 12 second interval.
- Carry Test: Carry 40 lbs. with two hands for 50 feet x 2. Self-paced, but continuous. (Allow a 60 second rest break between carry tests).
- Shovel 5 minutes self-paced and continuous.
- Stairs: Walk up and down 12 steps x 10 for a total of 120 steps. Self-paced. (Allow a 60 second rest break after climbing up and down 60 steps.
- Slanted Ladder: Climb up and down 5 rungs x 3 for a total of 15 rungs, Self-paced, but continuous.
- Repetitive Stoop Test: Perform from standing position, bend forward at waist as far as possible without bending the knees with hands reaching toward the floor x 5, self-paced, but continuous.
- Repetitive Kneel Test: Perform from standing, kneel on one knee, alternate from left to right knee, x 5 each knee.
- Repetitive Squat Test: Perform a functional squat and stand x 5.
- Twist and Flex Test: Perform from standing alternate toe touches x 5 to each side to assess ability to twist and flex the trunk repetitively.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to acquire a Class A CDL with hazardous endorsement within 6 months of employment and ability to be insured by Worley auto insurer.
- NCCCO TLL large telescopic (swing cab) certification.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC). Worley can provide NSTC certification training if needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current class A CDL with tanker, hazmat endorsement and current DOT medical card.
- Two (2) years North Slope experience.
- Two (2) years’ experience operating loader, forklift, boom truck and other miscellaneous oilfield equipment.
- Two (2) years Oil Filed experience.
- Alaska resident capable of short notice mobilization.
