The Counselor maintains a caseload of 8 clients in a residential treatment program that is specialized for women with co-occurring (mental health and substance use) disorders. The Counselor is responsible for running groups, maintaining and creating a therapeutic environment, utilizing a client-centered, harm reduction approach. The Counselor reports to the Clinical Director for supervision.
Essential Functions:
  • Provide weekly, individualized sessions for 8 residents, as well as run groups for the program.
  • Maintain effective documentation and record keeping systems, including but not limited to: biopsychosocial assessment, treatment planning, re-assessment, progress notes, transition and discharge notes, consent forms, data collection (i.e. VPI, DPH); aftercare planning; closing/discharge notes; and SOCRATES.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of referral sources such as housing, medical, outpatient counseling, dental, legal, HIV client services, self-help groups, educational, and others to provide comprehensive services to the program clients and their families.
  • Provide or coordinate family support services to clients when applicable.
  • Develop, implement, and facilitate and/or co-facilitate client groups and complete required documentation.
  • Assist Clinical Director in attaining insurance documentation as needed.
  • Enter BSAS documentation as needed
  • Conduct intake, screening, and/or interviewing of new client admissions upon request by your supervisor.
  • Discuss treatment plans with clients and review in clinical team meetings weekly.
  • Communicate effectively with the treatment team and any other individuals or agencies involved in the client’s treatment.
  • Provide milieu coverage as needed, including: monitoring and assessing the integrity of the program’s therapeutic milieu; empowering clients to act in accordance with the guidelines of the program; assisting clients in self-administration of medications; conducting controlled substance counts; answering phones and the front door.
  • Attend weekly supervision, staff meetings, clinical meetings, in-service trainings, and agency workshops.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the Program Director or his/her designee.
  • Act in accordance with Victory Programs, Inc.’s Standards of Excellence & Philosophy Care at all times, including maintaining professional ethics, boundaries and client confidentiality and working from a strength based perspective using evidence base practices (MI, CBT, Harm Reduction etc.)
  • Ensure that all services are delivered in compliance with agency standards and contractual requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, LADCI, or in another human services related field preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year of work experience in the field of substance use, HIV and/or mental health; Or a certificate from a recognized counseling program or course of instruction; Or, 3 years’ relevant work experience in the field of substance use, HIV, and/or mental health
  • Minimum of one year of experience in the field of substance use or mental health.
  • Knowledge of group facilitation skills or a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a member of the treatment team.
  • Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to relate to clients in an instructive, supportive, and compassionate manner.
  • Current TB assessment and current CPR certification.

  • Full-time position (40 hours/week): Sunday- Thursday (flexible)
