Job Profile Summary:

The Corporate Director of Sales (Portfolio) is a key role in driving the overall sales and marketing strategy for a collection of 13-15 premium select branded and independent hotels. Individuals serving in this role must monitor group, transient, and contract performance and agreements, quoting rates in accordance with the Company’s revenue management strategy, sending referrals, set traces, and managing retention, reactivation, and acquisition accounts. The Corporate Director of Sales (Portfolio) oversees the operations of the hotel sales department, including but not limited to direct sales follow-up, sales administration, hiring of staff, training, managing, and coaching.

This position is responsible for leading, creating, and managing sales and marketing budgets, strategic deployment of Company resources, forecasting, advertising, and developing business plans to ensure the collection of hotels meets or exceeds its revenue and profit objectives. This position reports to executive management.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Own the sales processes across all assigned hotels to ensure compliance with Company and Brand standards.
  • Develop, recommend, implement, and manage the portfolio's annual revenue budget and sales department expenses, including advertising, public relations, marketing, and sales plans and programs for the hotel to maximize rate occupancy and food & beverage opportunities to ensure the hotel meets or exceeds management and owner revenue and profit goals.
  • Coordinate all group, transient, contract, and catering sales solicitations and bookings to maximize overall revenue.
  • Develop Portfolio sales targets and work to create strategies to ensure proper execution.
  • Initiate and develop sales trips to key feeder markets/cities with a focus on identifying accounts that can directly benefit revenue performance targets at all hotels located within the cluster. In addition, work directly with property-based Sales team to help with the coordination of on-property direct sales efforts.
  • Develop and maintain market awareness to ensure the ability to predict revenue opportunities and set proactive strategies.
  • Proactively conduct outside sales calls, conduct sales tours, and entertain clients.
  • Conduct on-property visits to hotels in the assigned portfolio to assess the strength of sales leadership, strategic culture, and adherence to Brand and Company established standards, sales standards, and sales metrics.
  • Understand the content reflected in contracts and how to negotiate terms therein.
  • Monitor production of all top accounts and evaluate trends within your market.
  • Train all members of the hotel staff on how to recognize and capitalize on all sales opportunities to increase hotel occupancy and revenue.
  • With input and guidance from Executive Management, assist with the attraction, retention, and motivation of employees; hire, train, develop, empower, coach, and counsel; conduct performance and salary reviews; resolve problems; provide open communication vehicles; discipline and terminate as appropriate.
  • Develop a full working knowledge of the operations and policies of the hotel, including Sales, Food and Beverage, Front Office, Revenue Management, and Reservations.
  • Maintain strong visibility in local community and industry organizations.
  • Attend and/or conduct daily/weekly/monthly meetings and any other functions required by management providing training on a rotational basis.
  • Maintains professional working relationships and promote open lines of communication across assigned Portfolio to achieve initiatives with respective marketing partner(s) and other internal departments.
  • Review business intelligence reports including: STR Reports, HotStats, Amadeus Agency360 and other data as developed.
  • Lead Consortia and Wholesale RFP processes.
  • Participate in monthly property review meetings.
  • Review P&L results monthly and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Travel required, 50% of time.
  • Attend industry trade shows.
  • Performing other duties as requested by Executive Management.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Business or a similar field.
  • MBA is preferred.
  • Active membership in HSMAI preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in Hotel Sales and Marketing with multiple property responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Hotel Sales practices.
  • Proven experience in forecasting, and sales planning.
  • Deep understanding of travel industry.
  • Experience with at least two or more major hotel brands (including Hilton, Marriott, IHG, or Hyatt)
  • Solid analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, team-oriented.
  • Strong sense of urgency

  • Deadline-oriented and extreme focus on details.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and extended times as required to meet deadlines.
  • Travel to assigned hotels at least four times per year (50% of the time)
  • On occasion some nights and weekends may be required.
