Our manufacturing client in Cedar Falls, Iowa, has an opening for a Controller.
- Accounting functions are primarily handled by the Controller. Controlling the company's fiscal functions and performance is the Controller's responsibility.
- In addition to maintaining accounting books and records, the Controller will also be responsible for the organization's software systems.
- Some responsibilities include financial and accounting internal controls, oversight of accounts receivable and payable, payroll processing, and maintaining the general ledger.
- In addition to maintaining relationships with other members of the leadership team and owners, the Controller maintains relationships with banks, accountants, income tax preparers, and other vendors.
Requirements for the position:
- Take part in key decisions about strategic initiatives, operational modes, and operational execution as a leadership team member.
- Ensure the company's financial-related activities are managed daily, including accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, sales analysis, and negotiations.
- Advising management on the financial implications of business activities.
- Assist the CEO/President and other management members in completing their responsibilities by providing timely and accurate analyses of budgets, financial reports, and financial trends.
- Represent the company to potential investors, financial institutions, executives, auditors, and public officials.
- Supervise the accounting function and oversee all external vendors supporting finance, tax, audit, and payroll.
- Engage staff in creating a positive culture within the company and with clients.
- Achieve short- and long-term financial objectives by planning, implementing, managing, and controlling company financial activities.
- Develop strategies and initiatives to improve the company's short-term and long-term financial performance.
- Manage accounting and financial activities according to strategic plans.
- Recommend strategies to enhance financial performance and business activities.
- Ensure that funds are available for short-term working capital and cash flow planning.
- Oversee the processing of accounts payable and collections of receivables, as well as the completion of monthly bank reconciliations and month-end processing.
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions and optimize credit card, bank, and cash deposit relationships.
- Manage payroll processes and interact with benefits providers.
- Analyze and advise on the financial impact of strategic plans, business development plans, and actions.
- Provide timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to ensure the credibility of the finance/accounting department.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies within the financial results, including inventory adjustments, cost of goods sold, production, and overhead variances.
- Ensure accurate forecasting, planning, budgeting, and reporting to the company by developing, managing, and ensuring precise analysis and processes.
- Manage financial and operational metrics by recommending, preparing, and analyzing them.
- Calculate variances from the budget and inform management of significant issues.
- Prepare management cost reports.
- As needed, perform ad hoc financial analysis, including, but not limited to, capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Establishes, implements and enforces accounting policies and procedures, including effective internal controls.
- Report financial and tax information in compliance with GAAP and applicable city, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure that tax documents and returns are filed on time.
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors and ensure timely audits.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required; an MBA is preferred.
- An active CPA license accreditation and completing the Uniform Certified Public Accountants Exam is required.
- A track record of progressively responsible financial leadership in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in the manufacturing industry is required.
- Experience with costing, sales tax, and payroll tax.
- Experience with SAP, Oracle, and other ERP systems
- High integrity and dependability, a strong work ethic, and a sense of urgency.
- Ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization.
- Strong problem-solving and assessment skills, making accurate and timely decisions based on sound judgment.
- Motivated, driven, and engaged in developing, mentoring, and managing accounting/finance personnel.
- Must possess strong financial acumen and reading, writing, grammar, and math skills.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook (among others); knowledge of WorkWise ERP would be advantageous.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $170,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
