Job description
Integrates community engagement, research and cancer education efforts across the Chinese speaking catchment area of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center with a goal of disseminating cancer information, promoting cancer risk reduction and early detection; and increasing access to and awareness of health promotion practices, cancer screening, early detection, cancer survivorship and cancer clinical trials.
The Community Health Educator will provide culturally tailored, linguistically appropriate information to appropriate Chinese (Cantonese) speaking communities, thus enhancing the cancer center's reach and impact on cancer inequities and disparities historically observed in vulnerable populations. This position will focus on activities within the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center as well as community health education activities related to other population health and health equity programs and initiatives.
In this position, the incumbent must possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English and Chinese/Cantonese.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in public health, community health education or a closely related area and one or more years of related work experience working with community based organizations or directly with underserved and racial/ethnically diverse community members or related area; and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Demonstrated experience with community engagement; at least 2 years of experience conducting trainings and/or making group presentations; thorough understanding and experience working with diverse populations experiencing health inequities and disparities.
- Must be fluent in written and oral Cantonese language.
- Working knowledge of the health promotion and education field.
- Knowledge and skills associated with planning, development, delivery and evaluation of health promotion and disease prevention health education programs and services for underserved and racial/ ethnically diverse populations.
- Working knowledge of the design and delivery of related programs.
- Effective interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group/population and internal and external partners and stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in English and Chinese/Cantonese.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Ability to work in an open space environment.
- Flexibility for evening and/or weekend events / activities is required.
- Job will require travel, typically in the Bay Area or catchment area.
