JMT's Construction Management Team is seeking a Coatings Inspector for Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC), and municipal highway and bridge projects. The successful candidate will apply standard inspection procedures for a temporary assignment, in the Tyrone, PA area, during and after construction for quality, general safety and conformance to plans, specifications and codes. Assignment length for project will be from April through November of 2023. Sponsorship is not available for this position.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Gather and maintain record documents
  • Make field notes and computations
  • Document daily ambient conditions (temperature, humidity, wind, etc.) during abrasive blasting and coating application
  • Check surface preparation using equipment and/or referenced standards
  • Verify profile depth and levels of salt contamination on the surface
  • Inspect application of coatings (procedures, mixing, thickness) using test instruments and compare with manufacturer’s data sheets and project specifications

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Required Skills

Required Experience
  • 3 years of Structural Steel Coatings Inspection Experience
  • 6 months of coatings inspection experience on bridges
  • Active driver’s license
  • NACE/AMPP CIP Level 1 certificate
  • Lead Abatement Training- SSPC C3 certificate
  • Computer proficiency is preferred

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Work may be performed at night. Ability to climb required.
