Summary:
The Rehabilitation Clinical Manager for Behavioral Health will work as part of the multidisciplinary treatment team to provide specialty occupational therapy and individualized therapeutic services for adults and geriatrics with psychiatric behavioral and emotional disorders and intellectual/developmental disabilities. The Rehabilitation Clinical Manager for Behavioral Health will work collaboratively with the inter-disciplinary team to facilitate groups conduct diagnostic assessments develop treatment plans offer life skills training sensory integration and other related services. In addition the incumbent is responsible for the development implementation and day to day management of the inpatient therapeutic program and recruits hires orients directs and evaluates professional and support staff as assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing quality of services and programs and will present recommendations for changes to Department leadership as appropriate.

This role will report directly to the Director of Psychiatric Nursing Services and will work with other leaders within the multidisciplinary treatment team; in addition the Rehabilitation Clinical Manager may receive clinical guidance from senior staff and/or clinical specialists with the Division of Rehab Services.

Responsibilities:
Communication

Demonstrates the highest level of communication and professionalism with patients caregivers rehabilitation staff providers and other health care professionals both within the academic medical center and in the community.

Communicates clearly respectfully and honestly with patients and/or caregivers and colleagues.

Principal Duties

Examines and evaluates patients.

Establishes diagnosis prognosis and individualized plans of care.

Implements treatment intervention based on plan of care considering precautions indications and contradictions.

Directs and coordinates patients rehabilitation plan of care.

Evaluates patients progress and revises goals and plan of care accordingly.

Educates/ Trains patients/caregivers.

Anticipates and communicates discharge/home needs and resources.

Completes documentation and charges accurately and timely in compliance with department policy.

Completes clinical documentation reflecting eligibility/ medical necessity of services in compliance with professional and regulatory standards.

Makes recommendations and referrals for additional diagnostic testing and/or services.

Consistently applies evidence-based practice to all aspects of clinical care.

Seeks additional guidance when necessary to assure safe and effective patient care.

Participates in the development implementation and evaluation of related policies and procedures for rehabilitation services.

Identifies resources required to achieve the operating result and advocates for them during budget development and resource allocation.

Through the Clinical Mangers and Therapeutic Activities Coordinator for impatient behavioral health directs effective utilization of resources (people financial material and equipment) for the therapeutic program.

Ensures effective recruitment selection development management and evaluation of rehab professionals and support staff assigned to the to in patient behavioral health units to optimize achievement of goals and objectives.

Facilitates continuous performance improvement by encouraging innovation supporting reasonable risk-taking and maintaining openness to new ideas.

Additional Duties

Provides education to other hospital departments/personnel students and outside agencies/schools.

Demonstrates ability to flex schedule based on department patient and/or caregiver need.

Completes mandatory departmental and hospital training.

In conjunction with department leadership develops operating priorities to ensure activities support the systems strategies while maintaining fiscal responsibility.

Collaborates and consults with peers and colleagues by defining functional standards and translating them into usable applications and/or care patterns.

Ensures all patient care activities support established standards of care meet or exceed patient care quality standards are in compliance with various regulatory agencies and consider age-specific needs of the patient populations served.

Ensures all patient care activities are carried out in consideration of the aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

Serves as a role model to staff by continuously demonstrating Lifespans values and principles creating and maintaining effective positive customer service relationships by identifying customers and their needs ensuring the needs are met or exceeded and responding appropriately to difficult interactions and educating the staff on the importance of quality customer service.

Participates in or leads various committees task forces and quality improvement teams as needed.

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution is required.

Masters level degree in Occupational Therapy is required doctoral degree preferred.

State license issued by the Rhode Island Department of Health is required.

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in program specific settings is preferred of which some time was spent in program development or in a supervisory capacity. Experience should demonstrate a high level of written and oral communication skills effective leadership/management skills and commitment to continuous quality improvement.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Fit for duty as documented by OSHA standards and program specific needs.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITY:
Pursuant to the state of Rhode Island Rules and Regulations for Licensing Occupational Therapists a licensed Occupational therapist shall at all times be responsible for the supervision of certified occupational therapy assistants supportive personnel and students to ensure the safety and welfare of patients. Provides consistent and thorough supervision of assistants aides therapists and volunteers including cosigning notes reviewing patient treatment plans and goals.

Direct and/or indirect supervisory responsibility for up to 45 FTEs.
