This supervisor provides excellent customer service at the Circulation Desk, assists in training and provides support for student employees, handles library patron accounts, reviews and maintains patron registration records, and processes equipment inventories. This position reports to the Circulation Services Manager and works a regular schedule of Tuesday-Saturday. Occasional nights and holidays may be required to support departmental functions.
Department Responsibilities
  • Ensures efficient customer service to library patrons both in-person and via email. Resolves complex transactions, explains policies, and reports issues to the Circulation Services Manager or the Head of Access Services.
  • Handles troubleshooting as needed. Refers emergency situations to appropriate personnel such as Public Safety, Facilities, supervisor, etc., and provides backup support if needed.
  • Supports Collections Management in preparing and retrieving library materials and participates in projects.
  • Represents the William H. Hannon Library and LMU within the library and campus community as appropriate.
Student Supervision
  • Assists in training student employees and supports them in resolving issues at the Circulation Desk.
  • Assists in writing student employees’ performance reviews.
Position-Specific Responsibilities
  • Manages the Circulation Department and the library building on Saturdays.
  • Oversees the library’s collection of fines; communicates with patrons regarding unreturned items and fines. Maintains separate reports of outstanding library materials checked out to students, faculty and staff, and communicates with manager about any outstanding fine issues.
  • Researches lost materials and communicates information about lost, paid, or damaged materials to Acquisitions & Collection Development.
  • Maintains inventory of library equipment for patrons to check out at the Circulation Desk.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications
  • Typically, a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Minimum 2 years of full-time experience working in a library.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in library functions and standards; customer service standards; Library of Congress Classification System.
  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and verbal), as evidenced by effective exchange of work-area information with students, staff, faculty or external contacts to provide non-routine service and support.
  • Highly developed organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated computer competencies, including Microsoft Office suite, web browsers, and integrated library systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience training and supervising student employees.
  • Experience with circulation / fulfillment services in an academic library.
  • Experience using Ex Libris Alma and/or CaiaSoft library systems.

Location & Hours
This position reports to the William H. Hannon Library, on the University's Westchester campus. Incumbent is expected to work fully on-site, with an expected schedule during core business hours Tuesday-Sunday. Occasional nights and holidays may be required to support department and library operations.
Hiring Salary Range
$23.10 - $26.00/hr., depending on experience. This position is non-exempt.
