We have grown steadily over the past 20 years to become the largest expanded learning time organization in San Mateo County, sites in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Redwood City, South San Francisco, Daly City, and San Mateo. Our 24 program locations serve nearly 3,500 students countywide and are made possible with a $28 million organizational budget and through the talents of a 300-employee-strong workforce that keeps growing.
Program Overview
The Career Pathways Program is a career exposure, exploration, and preparation program that serves the youth of BGCP to support them in building the cultural and social capital necessary to enter a career path of their choosing based on their passions, interests, and talents rather than solely based on financial need. As the Career Pathways Program, we strive to provide access to career preparation and resources for our youth that supports them in fulfilling their aspirations with an equity-driven approach by providing differentiated support for all grade levels from the 9th-16th grade.
Position Overview
As a full-time, Career Pathways Program Advisor, you will implement programming that prepares youth to pursue and complete a broad range of postsecondary education and training pathways. Through the partnership with BGCP’s Clubhouses, Future Grads, and partner schools you will identify students, and support their application and enrollment into a 1-2 year postsecondary education/training program. Career Pathway Advisors will equip high school and postsecondary students with the resources, navigational skills, and postsecondary guidance to complete their postsecondary education and training.
The Career Pathways Program Advisor will report to the Director, Career Pathways Programs.
This position will serve our youth at BGCP’s Redwood City and East Palo Alto Clubhouses.
Employment Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Pay Rate: $22.00 - $33.00 per hour (DOE)
Location: Redwood City and East Palo Alto
Expected Work Hours/Schedule:
Monday-Friday
10:00 am-7:00 pm
With the possibility of additional morning, evening, or weekend hours to accommodate meetings with program partners, schools, parents, and special events
What will you do?
Collaborate with the Director of Career Pathways Programs, to develop and implement the 1-2 year pathways advising program
Recruit students, primarily high school seniors, from Clubhouse programs, Future Grads, and partner high schools
Build relationships with students and understand their career interests
Meet individually with students twice a month to address a range of topics: academic progress, program completion, and socio-emotional well-being.
Maintain case notes and data in Salesforce’s database accurately and on time to inform program needs and annual reports to stakeholders
Collaborate with the Career Pathways Program team to implement Career Exploration & Exposure programming.
Establish and maintain partnerships with 1-2 year postsecondary programs, partner high schools, and partner BGCP programs
Support students in completing a Career Toolkit (resume, cover letter, letters of recommendation, etc.) aligned to the career pathway of choice
Support recruitment and enrollment of dual enrollment courses for high school students offered through partner community colleges
What will success look like?
All 1-2 Year Pathway Students:
Enrolled in 1-2 year postsecondary program
Remain on track to complete 1-2 year postsecondary pathway of choice
Completion of 1-2 year postsecondary program ready to enter the career field of choice
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly rate: $22.00 - $33.00 (DOE)

What qualifications will the ideal candidate have?
Postsecondary program completion, or equivalent experience
Ability to navigate various school systems (high school and post-secondary school)
A commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
2-3 year of experience working with high school students
Strong interpersonal skills and youth development experience
Great organizational, communication and collaboration skills
Strong initiative, self-starter, intrinsically motivated and problem solver
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, G-Suite, Canva, Salesforce
Experience working with California Community College system, strongly preferred
