Job description
The Building Maintenance Superintendent 1 for the Operations Mechanical and Electrical Shop is responsible for electrical maintenance activities scheduled or arising throughout campus at The Ohio State University.
Job Description:
Assist Senior Manager with the overall operation of the Electrical Shop.
Work with Senior Manager to provide scheduling and supervision.
Work with others to plan preventive maintenance and corrective action schedules, instruct staff, and participate in evaluating building systems for correct operation.
Monitor the purchasing of materials, supplies, tools, etc.
Respond to facility problems that arise and preventative maintenance in buildings.
Responsible for customer service and other facilities management support functions.
Provide estimates for billable work performed by electrical maintenance staff.
Serve as the direct supervisor of maintenance staff performing electrical-related work.
Provide staff training, develops daily work schedules, and forecast maintenance needs.
Conducts performance reviews, corrective action, and absentee coordination.
Coordinate and direct contractors and university personnel in coordination with other zone and district leadership.
May provide coverage for OPSMEP leadership when short-term staffing needs dictate.
Adhere to all safety practices and procedures.
Maintain work areas and equipment.
Attend meetings.
Assure properly completed documentation.
Provide a high level of customer service.
Communicate to customers, coworkers, and supervision via written, electronic, and verbal methods and devices.
Perform other duties as assigned.
This position works Monday - Friday 6:45 am to 3:45 pm but is subject to changes in shift, hours, days, and/or location as operations dictate.
Requires on-call holiday rotation and is subject to 24-hour emergency calls. In accordance with the Disaster Preparedness and University State of Emergency Policy 6.17, this position has been designated as essential short-term status and alternate long-term status.
Requires the successful completion of a criminal background check to include an MVR.
Minimum Education Required:
Per Classified Civil Svc Specs or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to read and write common sentences and to calculate fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Valid Driver's License.
Two years of relevant experience in building maintenance operations, including direct customer contact (preferably in a unionized setting).
Experience with AIM and Microsoft software is desired.
Proven teaming, leadership, relationship building, resource management, conflict management, experience influencing others to accomplish goals, experience managing and measuring work, ability to write and speak clearly, read and understand blueprints, solve complex problems, and excellent customer service skills and experience.
Three months or three courses in management/supervision (one year is strongly desired).
Twelve months experience or 1200 hours of training in electrical and related safety.
Additional Education Desired:
2-Year College Degree
Associate's Degree or equivalent level of education and experience desired.
