If so, then you may be interested in a Boiler Inspector position in the Employment Standards Division.

As a Boiler Inspector you will be responsible for completion of inspections for compliance with adopted Codes, Administrative Rules and State law. You will investigate complaints and conduct investigations for compliance with adopted Codes, Administrative Rules and State law; and other enforcement duties. In addition, you will provide administrative duties including on site plan review and field issuing permits. Your decisions and solutions to problems will directly affect the public's safety, health and welfare; the quality of construction and their compliance with adopted Codes and the economic impact related to installation, maintenance and repair costs, on business, owners, users, and customers.

The successful candidate will be performing Boiler inspections in the Havre, Sidney, Miles City, and Glendive areas. You will be required to live in one of the above-mentioned inspection areas and travel to locations where work is assigned.

  • Must have the professional knowledge, skill and ability to independently interpret codes, rules, laws and policies to attain compliance and enforcement of the state adopted building codes and laws.
  • Ability to apply knowledge and skill to a variety of complex building inspection issues and concerns with emphasis on life safety.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified applicants must Possess the following Licenses and/or certifications:

  • A first-class stationary engineer’s license issued by the State of Montana and held for a period of three years prior to employment.
  • A Second-Class Stationary Engineer’s License issued by the State of Montana, or equivalent.
  • A Third-Class Stationary Engineer’s License issued by the State of Montana, or equivalent.
  • A National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors Commission
  • A valid driver’s license in required.
  • Working knowledge of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Code, administrative rules, and state law and ability to interpret same.
  • A minimum of ten years of actual experience in the operation of steam engines, steam boilers and steam machinery is required.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.
