Position Objective

This position leads and manages the safe and efficient operation of the GCT Terminal Appearance Group as well as the MNR Mail Room/Lost and Found Unit and GCT Events. Will work as assigned to cover other GCT Station Operations divisions at the direction of the Deputy Director Station Operations.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage the GCT Terminal Appearance Division to ensure the safe and efficient sanitization and cleaning of all areas of the Grand Central Terminal Campus to include all employee facilities and customer touchpoints. Ensure that all employee training and qualifications are up to date with proper recordkeeping. Manage all fixed assets assigned to the Station Operations group to include cyclical maintenance and replacements if needed.


Lead and manage the operations of the MNR Mailroom and Lost and Found Units. Maintain all contracts associated with both units to ensure contracts remain active and fully funded. Assist all MNR/MTA personnel with any issues on having items delivered to/from the GCT/Graybar Campus. Address any escalated customer concerns for Lost and Found unit. Act as a Liaison to LIRR Grand Central Madison Lost and Found unit for any assistance


Lead and manage the operations of GCT Events to include rail charters. Ensure the safe production, installation and breakdown of external events within Grand Central Terminal. Act as the primary contact for any internal MNR/MTA events to coordinate directly with other MNR/MTA groups. Liaison with other MNR Management for any incoming rail charter requests


Ensure appropriate safety measures are complied with, including safety procedures, policies, awareness and personal accountability, to establish and maintain a safe work environment for all employees and customers in accordance with corporate goals. Perform Safety Audits and Inspections as required.


Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure timely and appropriate hiring of employees. Oversee training and supervision for all managers and new and existing employees ensuring a professional, highly skilled workforce.


Act as a back up to other Assistant Director Station Operations divisions to include Ticket Sales and Service, Station Master’s Office and Group Travel Mail and Ride. This will include staffing that consists of a variation of AM and PM Shifts to include weekend coverage.


Required Qualifications


Ability to direct point of sale revenue activities including the automated and manual collection of fare revenues.

Thorough knowledge of customer communications.

Working knowledge of MS Office Suite and/or comparable applications i.e. Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Project.

Strong interpersonal, oral and written communications skills

Strong interpersonal skills to interact with internal/external customers

Thorough knowledge and application of collective bargaining agreements with the ability to meet with Labor Relation Department personnel and Union Officials to discuss a variety of issues.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop motivate and promote teamwork.

Excellent planning, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills

Excellent organizational and managerial skills.

Demonstrated ability to view customer service needs and concerns creatively and execute broad programs to address these issues.

Must be able to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Valid NYS Driver’s license


Preferred Qualifications


Familiarity with ticket office operation.

Familiarity with MTA Metro-North Railroad Passenger Tariffs.


Required Education and Experience


A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facility Management, Business, Planning, Accounting, Transportation or another related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical skills to include four additional years of related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Minimum (5) five years of progressive leadership experience in an increasingly complex facility, hospitality, retail and / or transportation station/facility management.

Minimum three (3) years’ experience managing a unionized and or management workforce.

This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicology testing.

As an employee of Metro-North Railroad you may be required to complete a New York State financial disclosure statement, if you earn more than $105,472.00 or if you hold a position designated as a policy maker.

Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
