Associate Accountant / Assistant Controller

The Minnehaha Country Club is celebrating our 118th year of operations, and we are currently seeking a driven and team-oriented accounting professional to join our team. Minnehaha Country Club is Sioux Falls’ premier country club, operates year-round and serves membership of approximately 740 families. The Club features an immaculate championship 18-hole golf course and one of the finest restaurants in Sioux Falls, as well as swimming, tennis, and fitness amenities.
The Associate Accountant will report to the Club’s Controller, join a three-person accounting team, execute the majority of the Club’s AR and AP processes, and play a key role in our continued pursuit of enhanced efficiency and consistency in accounting operations. He/she will actively promote the Minnehaha Country Club brand, serve as an ambassador for the club, and operate at all times with the highest degree of professionalism, teamwork, and effective communication.
The Associate Accountant will create financial transactions and generate financial reports, including the posting of information to accounting journals or accounting software from source documents as invoices to members and guests, cash receipts and supplier invoices. He/she also reconciles accounts to ensure their accuracy. Minnehaha Country Club is currently expanding our team to develop a Human Resources Manager role. The Associate Accountant will collaborate with the HR Manager on all payroll and benefit related matters, and may assist with these tasks in the absence of the HR Manager.
Compensation and Benefits
- The Associate Accountant is a full-time, non-exempt position and offers a base wage of $20.00 - $25.00 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Perform daily sales reconciliations and daily posting of revenues and receipts.
- Maintain and reconcile cash drawers for daily operations and prepare bank deposits.
- Process accounts payable, schedule and prepare checks, and resolve and documentation invoice or payment discrepancies.
- Maintain accounts payable/vendor records and account data.
- Process and post member payment, and assist members with account inquiries as requested.
- Prepare and distribute monthly membership statements.
- Maintain Members’ records and account data.
- Reconcile corporate credit card account monthly.
- Communicate with the Controller regarding any delinquent accounts and assist with record keeping and communication as needed.
- Assist with payroll processing and maintenance of employee records.
- Assist with the preparation and filing of monthly Sales & Use Tax reports with the State of South Dakota.
- Prepare journal entries as needed.
- Identify and implement process efficiencies where possible; assist in developing and enhancing formal accounting policies and procedures.
- Analyze financial information and assist in the preparation of financial reports.
- Attends scheduled staff meetings.
- Assists Administrative Assistant/Receptionist in answering phone calls as needed.
- Performs other appropriate assignments and projects as required.
- Maintain necessary procedures for confidentiality relating to club and employee issues.
- Assist in additional projects as directed by club management.
Knowledge, Experience and Abilities
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or business related field or equivalent work experience; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years accounting or bookkeeping experience, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, or financial reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to utilize advanced excel skills for higher level data analysis and data manipulation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to read, write and communicate verbally in English. Comprehension of detailed instructions, and the ability to compose professional correspondence is required.
- Ability to effectively present information in a variety of settings, from one-on-one to audiences of 20+.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, web browsing. Proficiency in the Club Essential or Jonas Club Systems platforms preferred.
- Detail oriented and highly organized.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- This position requires 40 hours per week; weekend and holiday work may be required from time to time.
- This is a typical office environment; you must be able to reach, bend, stretch, twist, stoop, and stand.
- You must be able to push and lift up to 40 pounds safely, must be able to sit for prolonged periods.
