Job description
The City of Redding is accepting applications for the position of Account Clerk I to fill a part-time position in the Airports Administration Division.
The current position is primarily responsible for the Accounts Payable function, processing of credit card transactions, processing of various types of purchase orders. The position encompasses handling large volumes of telephone calls, processing mail, and emails as necessary typically involving accounts payable, purchase orders, and credit card processing. This position supports the finance division and staff members within the division as necessary.
The ideal candidate will be able to work heavily with Microsoft Excel Spreadsheets and verify large quantities of data for accuracy while providing excellent customer service, both at the counter and over the telephone with numerous interruptions. The ideal candidate must be flexible and be able to multi-task as job duties change often due to deadlines and unforeseen new regulations/rules.
- Accept and/or verify collections, receipts and other financial data.
- Enter account information in the computer.
- Post checks, balances, payroll entries and adjust accounts.
- Gather, tabulate, and proofread statistical or financial data.
- Make arithmetical calculations and check various statistical or accounting tables and reports.
- Type reports, memorandums, letters, quotation requests and requisitions.
- Schedule, index, and file documents and other papers.
- Maintain departmental inventories.
- Contact customers by verbal or written communication.
- Maintain records.
- Schedule use of pool vehicles and issue credit cards.
- Communicate by radio with employees in the field.
- Knowledge of basic accounting or bookkeeping procedures
- Knowledge of methods, practices, and terminology used in financial and statistical record keeping
- Knowledge of modern office procedures and practices
- Knowledge of effective customer service skills
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic
- Knowledge of filing systems and procedures
- Ability to interact effectively with the public and employees
- Ability to post and make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately
- Ability to operate calculators, cash registers, personal computers and software, including word processing and spreadsheet, and other standard office equipment
- Ability to compare names and numbers accurately and rapidly
- Ability to accurately perform data entry
- Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
- Typical education would include a high school diploma, or equivalent.
- Typical experience would include 2-3 years in a related clerical field, which included working with the general public.
Examination Process: An online written examination will be administered.
Final appointment is contingent upon:
- Positive past employment references
- Passing a city paid fingerprint criminal conviction check (applicants 18 and older)
- Passing of a pre-employment medical exam and drug and alcohol screening test

Holidays:
An average of thirteen and a half per year. Fire Association covered employees receive a payment in lieu of holidays. Holiday compensation for Redding Peace Officers Association and Redding Police Managers Association employees has been converted to base pay.

Management positions are eligible to receive 40 hours of administrative leave per calendar year as authorized by the department director; additional leave up to 40 hours may be granted by the City Manager.

Union Dues: Some job classifications are represented by collective bargaining units, the employees of which may choose to join and pay union dues.
Part-time, seasonal, and full-time temporary employees either participate in the Social Security System or the PARS Alternate Retirement System depending upon bargaining unit assignment.
