Job Summary
The Drexel University Department of Microbiology and Immunology and The Institute for Molecular Medicine and Infectious Disease is hiring an academic coordinator to assist the instructional development team. The academic coordinator provides support for projects and tasks involving course content modifications, accessibility requirements, and related instructional design activities.
Essential Functions
- Assist with implementing newly created and existing course materials for face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.
- Analyze courses for alignment with best practices and generally recognized rubrics for online and hybrid courses.
- Assist with preparing and updating Blackboard Learn course shells each semester.
- Analyze and update existing online content as directed.
- Create written instructions or video tutorials to support teaching tasks.
- Support current best practices for online instruction and accessibility initiatives.
- Assist with maintaining the Microbiology and Immunology Student Center
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, or related field or Equivalent
- Minimum of one year of experience in a related field.
- Experience as an educator, e.g., teacher, teaching assistant, tutor, or other type of instructor.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to perform work under tight deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.
- Flexibility and comfort working with ambiguity.
- Characteristics needed to work independently (e.g., resourcefulness, initiative, time management, problem-solving, and dependability) while functioning as part of the team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) such as Blackboard, Canvas, or Moodle
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and related applications
- Experience with course authoring tools such as Camtasia and Articulate
- Multimedia experience such as desktop video, screencasts, and infographics
- Knowledge of synchronous meeting applications such as Zoom, Webex, or Collaborate
- Web design and graphics skills set.
