Department Profile:

Morgan Stanley's Global Sustainability Office (GSO) group is responsible for implementing the firm's sustainability strategy across policies, activities, products and services. Positioned under the firm's Chief Sustainability Officer, the team partners with senior leadership across the firm to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into core business globally.

GSO's climate team integrates the firm's climate strategy throughout the businesses and operations of the firm, including developing and driving the net zero strategy. The team is also responsible for the firm's climate disclosure, including owning the firm's voluntary climate reporting and informing our regulatory filings.

Job Summary:

The Vice President will be responsible for developing and driving the firm's climate disclosure strategy, covering both voluntary disclosure and regulatory requirements. They will need to ensure Morgan Stanley's climate disclosure incorporates best practices and is responsive to shareholder and stakeholder interests. The role will require working closely with our others within the Morgan Stanley climate team to ensure connectivity and coordination between Morgan Stanley's climate strategy and public disclosures globally. In addition, the VP will work closely with colleagues across other teams and business units, including GSO's Head of ESG Reporting & Shareholder Engagement

In addition, the candidate will use their climate disclosure expertise to help inform emerging frameworks and regulatory standards as appropriate and represent the firm in various trade association working groups as needed The VP role will also be responsible for our employee climate education platform. The VP will manage an analyst who primarily leads the employee education work and assists in all other disclosure activities.

Responsibilities:
  • Leading the delivery of the climate component of the firm's ESG Report, including drafting content
  • Assisting colleagues across different regions and business unit on any climate related disclosure
  • Providing expertise on climate disclosure frameworks, industry best practices, and regulations to inform firm climate strategy.
  • Representing the firm in external forums focused on climate disclosure-related issues in order to stay up to date on emerging trends
  • As needed, represent the climate team at various internal climate-related committees on the topic of climate disclosure.
  • Working with regulatory relations and government affairs to help inform climate-related regulations
  • Maintaining knowledge of the disclosure and regulatory landscape and socializing those developments across the firm.
  • Leading our climate education platform effort, working collaborative with other colleagues in GSO and the business.
  • Contributing to other climate-related work streams as project demands and timelines require
  • Managing and supporting an analyst, overseeing and ensuring high-quality work, and supporting professional development

QUALIFICATIONS


- The successful candidate should have approximately 8-10 years of professional experience, including a strong foundation in business, finance, accounting and/or related fields, evidenced by a relevant degree, appropriate industry qualification and/or relevant work experience in climate and reporting
  • In-depth knowledge of climate-related disclosure and regulation including TCFD, SASB, GRI frameworks as well as the SEC Climate Rule, ISSB standards, and CSRD. Basic familiarity with financial reporting standards will be helpful
  • Prior experience in corporate disclosure, ideally climate-related and in the financial services industry
  • The candidate should have experience and/or familiarity with broad climate and sustainability concepts and topics (e.g. carbon accounting, financed emissions, sustainability reporting, climate science) as well as be up to date on developments in climate disclosure-related policy.
  • Familiarity with basic Microsoft office software, (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and robust experience with drafting high-quality PPT presentation slides for a senior stakeholder audience
  • Experience with people management and professional development preferred
  • Strong business audience communications skills both written and verbal; ability to influence people and engage with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop excellent internal and external networks, and to act as a trusted partner to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Proven experience successfully delivering within a collaborative and fast-paced environment
  • Highly organized, proactive and self-starting
  • Passion for climate, sustainable finance, and driving positive impact is essential
  • Effective multi-tasker, with ability to manage stakeholders and prioritize work with support from senior team members
  • Strong attention to detail, in particular quality assurance

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 110,000 and 190,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
